We are considering them as our builder based on the display homes we have seen. Would love to here from anyone. Thanks. Keen to see replies to this also. We are seriously considering building with them in Adelaide too. However when I caught up with some old work mates today, incl one that built with them 7 years ago warned me against building with them. She said she knows of someone who built with them recently was also very unhappy with a lot of defects. I read through a lot of reviews tonight, and they seem fairly old. I have build before with another company. I do think it depends on the luck of the site manager you get assigned and the luck of the trades assigned also. I am still considering but will definitely read through the contract carefully and get professional advice on it before signing up. We love their display homes - and the salesman has been good to date. Re: Building with Dechellis - has anyone any advice? 3Feb 18, 2019 5:01 pm Also interested. Had a few friends who built with them who were happy but said the relatively low level of inclusions made it hard to get an idea of cost. The quality seems good though when I've had a look at their homes though. Re: Building with Dechellis - has anyone any advice? 4Feb 18, 2019 7:36 pm Don't take any notice of display quality almost ignore what you see as it's no indication what's so ever of what you can expect, displays are there very very best trades who are told ,take your time to ensure best work, you won't get this, speak to three recent builds , directly and look at the homes, this is what you will get . Re: Building with Dechellis - has anyone any advice? 5Feb 19, 2019 6:09 pm Yes, I'm aware of that. It's slightly an issue because of how rediculously nice and overspecced the dechellis display homes are. On the other hand the format homes are much more modest and they actually price them. I have seen the dechellis homes they've built (open inspections of already built homes, resold staff homes, etc) and they're quite good too. Re: Building with Dechellis - has anyone any advice? 6Feb 27, 2019 1:39 pm Unfortunately, you won't be able to evaluate internal/structural quality of the build by looking at the display homes. What helps a lot if you find an owner (or better multiple owners) how had independent inspections of their build at each stage and will be happy to provide you those reports as well discuss how quickly/professional they were in resolving issues found by independent building inspectors. The overall visual quality of the interior finishes is not that important as it is something which can be easily fixed/resolved at any time. IF only everyone would listen to the above advice, building practices would improve, text book advice, take note new home builders or risk a russian roulette type building experience. Re: Building with Dechellis - has anyone any advice? 8Feb 27, 2019 2:54 pm I am so glad we hired independant inspectors for our build. Though it took a lot of effort convincing DH but eventually it was ll worth it. They picked up a couple of problems at stage 2 which were rectified by the builder promptly. Our build will be finishing soon so left with one last inspection. Our build will be finishing soon so left with one last inspection. It would be really great if later you could (confidently) share your building inspection reports as well as comment on your experience in rectifying issues with the future customers. May be it is a good idea to create a public resource where customers can purchase such reports/experiences directly from the previous customers of the certain builder, by the way. This will be so much more more valuable than just reading text reviews. It will also help to push unreliable builders out of the market. This can probably be done pushing this directly to the independent building inspection companies such as Derbecca, who can ask their clients to opt in for this service and potentially receiving some kind of free extra money and eventually paying out the cost of the inspection/service. Thank you so much. This has been very helpful. We definitely wish to settle and get these people out of our life.
