Browse Forums General Discussion 1 Jun 13, 2018 11:37 pm Hi all, We're building with Metricon for our first home and had our colour and electrical appointments. Want to get few inputs on certain upgrade options. House: Delta 25S Features: 2550 ceiling Internal doors: (hume doors) - linear range $300 per door (https://www.humedoors.com.au/ranges/internal#46) - premium range $500 per door (https://www.humedoors.com.au/ranges/internal#55) Blinds - venetian blinds quoted $500-$1200 per window depending on width and height of window. Networking - $140 per data point Downlights - $95 per light Does the price look too much? Does anyone have experience upgrading these through third party tradesman for better deals? Regards, M Re: Metricon Build - few upgrades advice 2Jun 14, 2018 5:49 pm Cost of adding LED downlight was similar for me with another building company Downlights in top floor where these is roof access may be cheaper to install later. Get a quote from an electrician to be sure and compare light fittings. A sparky mate when he visited said he’d have charged $50 per extra downlight and installed better quality light fitting. Blinds - you could get a quote from a blinds company using your house plans. This is easy to do later if you are happy to have temporary window coverings up and your build doesn’t go over time so you don’t have sun damage to flooring etc before you move in. Data points were a bit cheaper for me through the builder. Not so easy to install later I imagine. think about how many data points you’ll need as so much is WiFi these days. Wifi is not always as fast or stable.... so pop into an electrical store and ask for advice. Or ask an electrician. If you are wanting multiple data points in one spot, splitters and other things exist that may be cheaper. I have many more data points installed than I am using. Each company puts different margins on different items. By the cost of additional doors in my contract, I suspected some gold may be hidden within. Unfortunately that is not the case. Versaloc is a mortarless besser block system that still needs a properly engineered footing. If you just do a 400x200 footing it will fail in time.
