Browse Forums General Discussion 1 May 15, 2018 11:48 am Hi All, I have finally moved in and built a Colorbond Fence around my house with the approval of all my neighbours in March 2018. Two of them have given me the shared cost. The 3rd one has mentioned before installation that she would be able to give her share only on the first week of April. We were fine with it and said ok. April starts, 3rd week I reminded her for payment. no reply. 4th week I sent another email to her. All these are happening in email convo and I have been writing to her in polite tone. After the second email, she finally replied back saying her house is still being built and has "Expenses". She assured I will be paid. But when??? Well, it is mid of May now and I still have not heard back from her. Just because we moved in to our house before her does not mean we have less expenses. What should I do? Wait until she moves in?? or Shoot another email? As everyone has expenses.....offer to accept her share spread over (say) 3 months Re: Am I overreacting over fence cost? 3May 16, 2018 4:03 pm Yes - I'd suggest 3 or 4 payments. So - if it was - say $800 - she could do 4 x $200. Maybe every Month ? Suggest this and point out - very nicely - you have "expenses" too. Re: Am I overreacting over fence cost? 4May 21, 2018 9:02 pm Well, you may not know what she would be going through. As she assures you that you will be paid, I would suggest you to wait for a short time period. If she doesn't pay then you can shoot another email. Re: Am I overreacting over fence cost? 5May 22, 2018 4:21 pm That's true Jane - but many people just don't want to pay. You will see them going out, buying stuff etc etc - but not paying their way. She may be having trouble - but she should tell you that - you don't/shouldn't have to ask ! Unfortunately bini might be having just as many issues as her ! Why should they have to carry her ? Re: Am I overreacting over fence cost? 6May 22, 2018 4:55 pm Actually you are right Saint. Even if she is going through a lot, at least she should inform Bini. Thus, he won't have to be worried and he will get to know the exact time period when she will pay back. Exactly, there will be pool of additional expenses after you move in for fence, fuel due to longer distance, unexpected charges in utility bills, Rates, home and furniture. I was completely ok with her for paying on 1st week of April (as advised). But now, she just said I will be paid when?? after 10 yrs??? And its so hard get reply out of her. I might email her after few weeks again and this time I will ask her to repay in instalments. 200+ bucks is still a lot of money to forget about esp. when you have family to look after. Re: Am I overreacting over fence cost? 8Jun 13, 2018 6:56 am Be interested in how it turns out. most people are OK. Re: Am I overreacting over fence cost? 9Jun 13, 2018 11:07 am Saint Mike Be interested in how it turns out. most people are OK. Same. I don’t know how people get in this situation in the first place. For anyone reading - get quotes for a fence/s and contact the adjoining owner/s in writing, provide them the quotes and when the fence is built ONLY pay your half to the fencer, the onus is on the fencing contractor to get the money owed not you. From experience people who get quotes and then the fence built and pay in full themselves, and then get reimbursed by the other owner do it that way so they can work out a cash price with the contractor and pocket the savings. (Not saying that happened here, but it’s pretty common, all good until your neighbor refuses to pay). Only this one said she will pay in following month. May be I shouldn't have trusted. Re: Am I overreacting over fence cost? 11Aug 06, 2018 10:22 am Have not received the amount yet, I was told that they wont be able to pay until they moved in. FINE. Moved in now. Reminded about it and said Just moved in. What should I do now, wait until they settle down in their new place??? Re: Am I overreacting over fence cost? 12Aug 07, 2018 9:07 am I'd send email - explain your position - and say if nothing happens you'll have to take the next step. You don't want to etc etc - but you can't carry them. I may have said - we went to Small Claims Court - cost us nothing but time - AND a neighbour - but we won. They just decided they wouldn't pay - stuff us ! Keep all the paper work - especially your advice to them. You have to show you did all you could and ARE the good guys in this.
