Browse Forums General Discussion 1 Apr 07, 2018 11:17 am Hi all, Our new house is under fixing stage. Last time when I went onsite I found the side elevation render on the edge is not correct onsite comparing with the plan. Below are the pictures. Shadow area is render and blank area is brickworks. The legends are clearly different. I asked builder and they replied Painted render on edge is to remain as is, it is not showing on the plan however aesthetically this looks better and provides a better weather seal. I am really angry but do not know what should I do. Tried to discuss with builder but failed. Anyone knows more about this issue? Are builder correct or they just do not want to amend it for saving some costs? The edge looks really weird in my view. Thanks in advance!! Politely respond you sign and accepted as per the DA and expect the plans to be followed. Go higher if you need to (don't know who the builder is). Don't settle, it will bug you for as long as you stay in the house. One person opinion on what looks best will differ to the next person, it's YOUR house. Re: External render is not same as plan but builder denied i 3Apr 13, 2018 5:03 am I am trying to understand how exactly are you proposing them to rectify it. If they remove the render, they will 100% damage the bricks. And yes, it really looks much better/more consistent this way. Re: External render is not same as plan but builder denied i 4Apr 19, 2018 11:12 am An edge like this is never going to look amazing, if there is a v groove in the wall that is the best case scenario, then render can go to the v groove, looks like there is some sort of vertical line in the photo but hard to see. If there is no clear vertical line in the brick where the render should stop then what they have done is the best option. Re: External render is not same as plan but builder denied i 5Apr 20, 2018 9:17 am Agreed on the above two posts - render that returns against face brickwork never looks great. You should have gotten the front rendered as well. When I tried doing something similar, my builder had the foresight to call me into his office and strongly suggest against it. Re: External render is not same as plan but builder denied i 6Apr 20, 2018 10:31 am I don't like the idea of only rendering the front or back - but not sides etc. I know it saves money - but it always looks a bit odd - imo. I know people who have done it and claim they love it tho ... Mind you - I'm probably missing the point again ... I know people who have done it and claim they love it tho ... Mind you - I'm probably missing the point again ... In this case it is the side that has been rendered but not the front, but the result is the same - odd. I agree with jas0nt above, should’ve gotten the front rendered too. I’d either just leave it and see if it doesn’t look better once you’re use to it, or, 2, paint it similar to the brick colour so it doesn’t contrast as much, or, 3, pay the money and render the entire front to match. 1) I had requested R6 ceiling insualtion batts, however I noticed that on some areas there are huge gaps which will allow hot air to sweep in, and also noticed black/grey… 0 3597 My door tends to rub against the frame during winter and I'm looking to fix it so it closes smoothly.
