Browse Forums General Discussion 1 Mar 26, 2018 9:23 pm Was trying to put this job for painting the 2.4m x 2.8m bathroom ceiling (which has bit mould on it) But getting some ridiculous quotes from 250$-500$ (including paints, tools needed etc). But given this amount. now we are thinking to DIY. (1) Looking at this size and condition of ceiling , can you guys suggest exactly which items will be needed and how much quantity of paint will needed? Is there some kind of anti-mould coat I have to apply before white color coat? (2) On side note, if I have to get this job done with a painter- what appro price range I am looking for? (I think those 400-500$ quotes are really too high but I may be wrong so just getting inputs here) Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ Re: Questions re painting the bathroom ceiling 2Mar 28, 2018 10:07 am If someone is going to do it properly for $250-300 (all up) - and I mean properly - cornice etc - mold prevention, multiple coats, professional paint - I'd go for it. If you have nothing you might be surprised how much good paint costs - and good brushes/rollers etc. They'll do it in a day or so. But I'd check they are licenced and have some references. DO NOT pay up front - pay on completion/satisfaction. AND - watch them do it. (Paint can cover a multitude of things once its on ... ). NB - I hope the ceiling is OK - ie doesn't need some replacement ? Re: Questions re painting the bathroom ceiling 3Mar 28, 2018 12:31 pm thanks. Re: Questions re painting the bathroom ceiling 4Mar 28, 2018 12:53 pm I'm no painter - but I believe there is an anti mold paint available. The Bunnings people could advise - or a good paint shop. My only advice is to do it well the first time - take your time and don't rush it. Use ground sheets no-matter how fast you may think you are. The can will tell you sizes etc. Maybe 4 litres would do 2 coats easily - but might need prep. Paints can be all prices - good ones quite a bit - eg $50-60. You'll need a brush - maybe a few - for edge work etc. But I like a roller for wider work. Tape for wall - a good painter doesn't need this - they cut in well - but a DiY person needs to be careful ... Also tape that "Tastic - after moving the cover etc. I must say - if those are tiles on the walls - they don't look too good either - between curtain and ceiling. You may need to do a bit of sealant/grout work too . Re: Questions re painting the bathroom ceiling 5Mar 28, 2018 10:10 pm A bit of mould is an understatement. So you don't think that solving the ventilation problem might be a good idea..... 'cos from where I'm looking that Tastic ain't doing it. Look at where the staining is and ask yourself why before you go looking at paint quality. Seems to me you're looking to dress up without changing your underwear. Re: Questions re painting the bathroom ceiling 6Mar 29, 2018 10:13 am A simple Google search shows a litre of paint will cover about 15m2, your area is about 6.7m2, so about 2 litres of paint required. As far as the quotes go, they seem reasonable to me. By the time they travel, setup, do the job, yeah. As the guy above said that tastic seems useless. Whichever way you go you’ll need to address the ventilation or you’ll be back here asking the same questions in 2yrs time. Hi, Have used the Dulux 1 step, oil base on my walls(white set), out of can it’s already a more thinner product than a final coat paint Also in water base Water or… 3 5026 Thanks mate, is there a standard off the shelf type breathable product I can apply DIY?
