Browse Forums General Discussion 1 Jan 21, 2018 1:20 pm Hi, Does anyone have kitchen cabinets that overhang the window as shown in these photos of our Liberty 45? Our site supervisor said in October this was a 'design detail' that had recently been changed because customers had complained. Our building inspector commented the same. If you have this 'design detail' did you notice it in the plans? did accept it?, Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ did you ask Metricon to fix it? What was the outcome?... Please advise. Norfolk. Re: Metricon kitchen cabinet overhanging windows? 3Jan 22, 2018 6:44 am Hi Kirashogun, Thanks for this. It's very helpful to us. Metricon don't provide detailed plans like yours to their customers for approval. Any reasonable customer would assume the kitchen cabinets align neatly with the windows because that's the design that is presented in Metricon's display homes, marketing materials, and kitchen design appointment. Such alignment is also good design practice and common sense. Customers get a surprise later when they find out the cabinets overhang the windows like mine. Unfortunately most customers are probably under pressure just to accept it so they can move in. Norfolk Re: Metricon kitchen cabinet overhanging windows? 4Jan 22, 2018 11:04 am Definitely do not accept this. All your points are perfectly valid. Make a fuss about it with Metricon. Squeaky wheel gets the grease. Looks like they stuffed up the dimensions to me. Re: Metricon kitchen cabinet overhanging windows? 6Jan 22, 2018 6:39 pm Thanks KIrashogun and Althom, Yes, of course, they are trying to dismiss their mistake and avoid responsibility to correct it! They said in October its a 'design detail' that has now been corrected. This suggests there are hundreds of customers with this kitchen design! Re: Metricon kitchen cabinet overhanging windows? 8Jan 25, 2018 2:12 am I would also suggest to consider lifting the boxes up to the bulkhead level, so there is no space between boxes and bulkhead itself. Otherwise tops of the box will get get dusty and it will be quite problematic to keep removing this dust from there due to narrow gap. Re: Metricon kitchen cabinet overhanging windows? 9Jan 25, 2018 2:28 pm Althom Your Site Supervisor is trying to hide a mistake. There is no way any builder would deliberately have the back of the cupboards visible like that through the window It seems Metricon would! This was a hot topic on here about 12, maybe 18, months ago. From memory most people's drawings (or at least the dimensions) showed the overlap, and people were being told that was their standard detail. Different builder but we had the same issue (not shown on the drawings in our case). Since our original intention was for the window frame to disappear, I wasn't bothered by it as long as they finished off the back of the cupboards better. However our SS insisted on getting them moved up and reducing the bulkhead. Despite the instruction being "flush" they ended up higher and we needed a bit of glass backsplash under the overheads. Looks pretty good now, but not really the detail we set out to create. We suggest anyone else who is unhappy with this kitchen window 'design detail' sees and agrees the rectification plan before agreeing to the fix. In our experience, Metricon will say anything about fixes and work arounds to keep the project moving to be able to claim 'practical completion' and final payment. Get it in writing before you agree! Re: Metricon kitchen cabinet overhanging windows? 11Jan 27, 2018 2:15 pm Have you seen this "feature" in any of their display homes ? Re: Metricon kitchen cabinet overhanging windows? 12Jan 27, 2018 2:40 pm No we didn't see this "feature" anywhere. We checked Metricon's display homes, brochures, online content and our plans and the cupboards sit neatly above the windows. This is represented to customers by Metricon as a sample of the design. Sounds like BS to me ... they have made a mistake. We saw our house at a display one time - the walk in robe door was in the wrong place. When we asked them why they said - no-one else had noticed. AND - this was their display house. I made sure I told this story to our SS. Re: Metricon kitchen cabinet overhanging windows? 14Jan 28, 2018 9:33 am Looks like they could fix it pretty easily. When we had to install a fridge in one house the cupboards above were too big. We just cut the bottom off the sides - re-attached the base and you can't notice the difference - so long as you do it both sides. The gap can be adjusted so it's tighter. You can definitely set up corner cabinets to have the same gap as standard doors. 2 8590 Hi, First of all, thank you to this community for sharing your thoughts and opinions.
