Browse Forums General Discussion Re: Metricon kitchen cabinet overhanging windows? 8Jan 25, 2018 1:12 am I would also suggest to consider lifting the boxes up to the bulkhead level, so there is no space between boxes and bulkhead itself. Otherwise tops of the box will get get dusty and it will be quite problematic to keep removing this dust from there due to narrow gap. There is no way any builder would deliberately have the back of the cupboards visible like that through the window It seems Metricon would! This was a hot topic on here about 12, maybe 18, months ago. From memory most people's drawings (or at least the dimensions) showed the overlap, and people were being told that was their standard detail. Different builder but we had the same issue (not shown on the drawings in our case). Since our original intention was for the window frame to disappear, I wasn't bothered by it as long as they finished off the back of the cupboards better. However our SS insisted on getting them moved up and reducing the bulkhead. Despite the instruction being "flush" they ended up higher and we needed a bit of glass backsplash under the overheads. Looks pretty good now, but not really the detail we set out to create. Looks pretty good now, but not really the detail we set out to create. Mertricon has offered to 'fix' this on ours however we have asked to see a plan of what they will do. We suggest anyone else who is unhappy with this kitchen window 'design detail' sees and agrees the rectification plan before agreeing to the fix. In our experience, Metricon will say anything about fixes and work arounds to keep the project moving to be able to claim 'practical completion' and final payment. Get it in writing before you agree! Re: Metricon kitchen cabinet overhanging windows? 11Jan 27, 2018 1:15 pm Have you seen this "feature" in any of their display homes ? Re: Metricon kitchen cabinet overhanging windows? 12Jan 27, 2018 1:40 pm No we didn't see this "feature" anywhere. We checked Metricon's display homes, brochures, online content and our plans and the cupboards sit neatly above the windows. This is represented to customers by Metricon as a sample of the design. Sounds like BS to me ... they have made a mistake. We saw our house at a display one time - the walk in robe door was in the wrong place. When we asked them why they said - no-one else had noticed. AND - this was their display house. I made sure I told this story to our SS. Re: Metricon kitchen cabinet overhanging windows? 14Jan 28, 2018 8:33 am Looks like they could fix it pretty easily. When we had to install a fridge in one house the cupboards above were too big. We just cut the bottom off the sides - re-attached the base and you can't notice the difference - so long as you do it both sides.
