Browse Forums General Discussion 1 Jan 03, 2018 1:19 am Hi all, I am a builder in Melbourne and I'm looking to start buying products from China. I had a few queries about regulations and laws around this, and what I should be careful of in other builders experiences. To give you some more info, I'm only looking to start purchasing things like taps, toilets, lights, showers, baths, tiles, curtains, floorboards, carpets etc. I will not be purchasing construction material from China such as timber or steel. I was particularly concerned a bout a few things. 1) What would the quality of products be like? and 2) What are the laws/legal issues that I may have importing these products from China (obviously the products need to be compliant to Australian Standards when manufactured, but are there any other laws?) If anyone has any similar experience in this and has any info to share whatsoever, it would be greatly appreciated! Thanks and looking forward to reading responses, A. Re: LAWS AROUND BUYING AND USING BUILDING PRODUCTS FROM CHIN 2Jan 03, 2018 7:04 am Hi ACS1 That has also been discussed Here Ebay Stores It helps if you put what state you are in OT The laws are about to be tightened even further due to the tens of thousands of buildings which have been clad in PE panels, but basically in a nutshell imported Materials & Goods must meet the relevant australian standards for compliance, fire, safety, etc. if they aren't compliant for whatever reason then it will need to be certified as equivalent or better than, generally by testing, Engineering Modelling & Simulations.
