Browse Forums General Discussion 1 Nov 17, 2017 9:29 am Hi All I recently put an offer on a block of land to build a nice home for my family. At that time the estate was still under construction. Now that it's coming to completion I went and had a look at the block. I can see that on one side next to an already established house the soil and level is higher. So the level of my block and the neighbours don't match. It is not by much. Maybe 1 or 2 courses. half a metre to a meter. The issue I see is that the neighbours fence is holding and retaining that soil. Which I believe is not how it's supposed to be. I was wondering if that is something the seller / re-developer needs to fix ? I did send them an update and photos that this should be fixed but they are going in circles and said they will get an engineer. I however have a feeling that will not happen. I am just wondering what I can do in this instance ? Are there any government bodies that do inspections once a stage of land is completed ? I mean this could cost me 15 to 20k extra to dig out the side and put a retaining wall ? I am in WA. Thanks J Re: Retaining Wall on New Land 2Nov 18, 2017 8:34 am Hi JohnRambo First thing to do is contact the Council and get a copy of the neighbours site plan with GLs, FFLs & Retaining Details then find out who is at fault..take it from there (BTW photos do help others) goodluck Designer,Engineer (Civil,Const & Envir),Builder,Concrete & Masonry Contract.Struct Repairs Re: Retaining Wall on New Land 3Nov 22, 2017 11:32 am We've just purchased a 700sqm block of land which has an overall fall of about 2m to the rear. As part of the development a 0.5-1.0m retaining wall will be built down the entire length on one side approx 40m. Am I within my rights to erect my colorbond fence on top of this (up to 1.8m)? Thanks .. Thank you again Simeon.. I will call my certifier for that.
