Browse Forums General Discussion 1 Nov 14, 2017 8:20 am Hubby and I are researching our options between buying an old place for KDR in an established suburb vs building in a new estate. I'm wondering if anyone has done some salvaging and selling of things like kitchen, bathroom, floor boards etc...?? Can we do that ourselves to make back a little bit of money? Or is it better to find a demolition company who will do that and provide a nice cheap overall cost to us (does that even happen??) Any advice appreciated. The price of land and the cost of building is looking like it will be very similar between the two options, so aside from the location question (and the fact that I don't really like the new estate feel but can be convinced) the cost of demolition and site prep is the main difference. I have been doing a fair bit of searching the forums (and googling in general). Consider my OP as my entry for point 2! Interesting to hear how things are going in Perth. I'm in Blacktown/Hills district of Sydney and there's a huge amount of growth at the fringe. I don't know the stats for KDR by comparison, although I can see it going on. Re: Salvage and demolition for a KDR? 4Nov 15, 2017 11:49 am Interesting question. I am about to do KDR in Melbourne and starting to get quotes for demolition. There is a lot of stuff on the existing house that (in my opinion) can be recycled. But I really can't be stuffed doing it myself with everything else I have going on so interested to see what the quotes come back with - there are some demolishers that specialize in this. There are also a lot of ads on gumtree from people that are demolishing houses basically saying everything is for sale, but you need to come and remove it yourself Re: Salvage and demolition for a KDR? 5Nov 15, 2017 8:04 pm kasia Interesting to hear how things are going in Perth. Those of us that have been around long enough have seen boom and bust economic periods Smart Builders/Developers will build other people's projects during boom times and their own during bust times... In a bust period your property prices drop (in 3 years perth 15-25%) while developers projects go up (literally ) on low interest rates & with an Abundance of trades.. it's a simple formula to make money.. I am looking for feedback on them from others who have built with them. 0 8186 |
