Browse Forums General Discussion 1 Aug 03, 2017 12:03 pm Hello, I have a situation and am not sure how to proceed. I am renting a small house from my father in law, which I plan on buying via an FHA loan in the coming months. The house has a vaulted ceiling. There is about a 3' space between the top of the drywall and the bottom of the roof. The house is only 850sf. There is no attic access anywhere. Is it normal to not have access to a vaulted ceiling? The ceiling is vaulted in every part of the home. From what I have read an FHA loan requires a through inspection of the attic. How is this possible without access? Also, I would like to rewire the swamp cooler to give me more functions. Currently its just on or off. I may also try to install as ceiling fan. So I guess I'm wondering if I should install an access hole somewhere? Or maybe change out the permanent vent with a removable one? I'm not really sure, any help is appreciated. Re: Accessing the attic of a vaulted ceiling 2Aug 03, 2017 12:10 pm what material is the roofing can you get in that way what part of the world are you in i am guessing usa by the sq ft measurement i would check all the cupboards in the house as attic access is sometimes well hidden Re: Accessing the attic of a vaulted ceiling 3Aug 03, 2017 12:22 pm There are no cupboards that touch the ceiling. Every inch of ceiling contact is 2x4 inch wall touching it. There is definitely no inside access. There is duct work for the swamp cooler if that helps. asphalt shingle roof and i'm guessing osb or plywood decking. Drywall inside. I live in Colorado. Thanks for your reply Re: Accessing the attic of a vaulted ceiling 4Aug 04, 2017 12:09 am What makes you believe there is an attic space? Thanks for sharing. Looks good.
