Browse Forums General Discussion 1 Jul 29, 2017 5:47 pm I would love some advice guys and girls - I dug a hole at my place about 40 cm down to find my home copper water pipe which is capped for a future shed. The pipe comes out from the house and under a new concrete path. My hole was not far from the path. It hasn't rained much in the past 2 weeks and the soil is mostly clay. The top was hard and dry. About 30cm deep the ground became so soft and wet i barely needed the shovel. It was here i found the pipe. It doesn't appear to be gushing out water but it could be a leak under the concrete further along? I'm hoping you guys will tell me clay holds water underground or disturbed clay will still be wet (as it was only installed under 2 months ago). More info: I dug another hole further away from the pipes and it was not as wet but still moist. I dug a hole further than that and it was dry. Worst case scenario it could be a leak coming out from under the concrete possibly from when the concrete path was installed the path 1 month ago. Re: Need urgent advice about clay soil holding water vs a le 2Jul 29, 2017 6:16 pm Did you say the trench for the water pipe was only dug two months ago? If so the trench could still be wet from the backfilled clay, especially if it was not compacted in layers when reinstated. This is why houses built on highly reactive soil are required by AS 2870 to have clay plugs in the service trenches to prevent water using those trenches as conduits and flowing under the house. 3in1 Supadiverta. As soon as the pressure controller registered the cut in pressure setting, the pump would start and recharge the line. Water is not compressible unless you have a handy black hole nearby, it doesn't take much fluid loss to lower the pipe's static pressure to the pressure controller's cut in pressure setting. Having a pressure tank would disguise it but the pump would also run for longer. 3in1 Supadiverta. Rainwater Harvesting Best Practice using syphonic drainage. Tried to play with the facade models but the exact colour is not matching up. 2 3259 If you make sure all taps inside and out are turned off, what does the water meter show if you leave it for a while. 2 20235 |
