We're getting sliding doors to robes but I'm thinking its better to get hinged so things are more accessible. What do you think? \/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/ Re: Hinged or Sliding doors on Robes 2Aug 23, 2008 7:25 pm I much prefer sliding as they save so much space, you don't have to allow room for the doors opening out.
I know this means you can't access the whole contents at once but not sure why this matters. In a nutshell as Helyn says....would prefer sliding doors on a robe in a minor bedroom....our's has a slider on the WIR, minor bedroom robes, laundry, and bathroom. The latter two open onto a hallway. And even though they were sliders could still get the boxed wedding dress into the top shelf of the robe....just got work the angles.... mmm....donuts Homer Simpson 1956- Links: Site Costs Ready Reckoner | H1 Addiction Medical Advice | Château TDL: The Backyard Re: Hinged or Sliding doors on Robes 5Aug 23, 2008 8:22 pm I like sliding doors as well because they save space. I just think that it's a bit difficult to find stuff. But I think we'll be sticking with the sliders. BTW, are you guys getting the mirror sliding door on robes? Or just standard flush doors? \/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/ Re: Hinged or Sliding doors on Robes 6Aug 23, 2008 9:35 pm I am not getting mirrored robes, I think they're too hard to keep clean, fingerprints etc, also I will have a WIR in main bedroom, I have a mirror on my dressing table plus a large mirror in ensuite, that's enough for me (there's only so much of myself I want to see )
Minor bedrooms, one will be a spare room/study and other one will be teenage son's room, he doesn't have a mirror in his room now and never asked for one, plus cleaning definetely not his strong point. I've got sliding BIR's in all my bedrooms now, including a wall of them in main bedroom, never had any problem finding things. Re: Hinged or Sliding doors on Robes 7Aug 23, 2008 9:36 pm I'm against the grain here. I much prefer hinged doors. Much easier to put large items away. Hit myself on the head a few weeks ago trying to put stupid backpack away after weekend trip because of sliding doors!
Much easier to put away with hinged doors. I like to open the wardrobe, grab a top from one end, pants from the other, jumper from a shelf, shoes from a shelf without manouvering around sliding doors. I just find hinged easier! Jo I leave you to fend for yourself, figure things out yourself. And elbows that spin around too far. If my hand is flat on a table my elbows can spin around while my hand and shoulder stay in the same postion. joles All the downlights will light the way and the bulkhead will point you in the right direction!!! Very helpful when coming home drunk! joles You know how most people make their colour selections based on what will hide the kids mess? I have to make them based on what will hide my mess. I'm bloody hopeless. Too light carpet means no red wine while reading, no coffee while reading, no vegemite toast while reading, etc, etc, etc. joles As I walked along, the horse stood just on the edge of my shoe on the side, as he wasn't on my foot itself I didn't feel it and continued to walk. Or try to. Of course my leg didn't come with me as it half a tonne of horse on it and I just fell flat on my face. joles My mess is from spillage. I drop things all the time. I also tend to fall over randomly but I always clean it up immediately. No light carpet because it's hard to clean, but I will clean. Yep Jo....it's those damn doors that are the problem..... mmm....donuts Homer Simpson 1956- Links: Site Costs Ready Reckoner | H1 Addiction Medical Advice | Château TDL: The Backyard Re: Hinged or Sliding doors on Robes 12Aug 23, 2008 10:38 pm Who?.... mmm....donuts Homer Simpson 1956- Links: Site Costs Ready Reckoner | H1 Addiction Medical Advice | Château TDL: The Backyard Re: Hinged or Sliding doors on Robes 13Aug 24, 2008 12:41 pm Very funny reading you 3.....
I quite like the mirrored sliders even with a bit of cleaning .....my little bloke can sit in front of the mirror for ages and it keeps him quiet....so mirrored for us are great (his vanity gives me some peace and quiet) and I love that you end up having more space in your room, not having to worry about the clearance of the doors being opened. They are also heavier with the mirrors and don't wobble on their sliders as much. Re: Hinged or Sliding doors on Robes 15Aug 24, 2008 6:24 pm We have a combination throughout the house, depensing on the room. Larger rooms are fine with hinged doors, but I personally find that the sliding doors are great. All our bedrooms have sliding doors, but the linen press and laundry storage doors are hinged. It will also dpeend on what you want to use the room for and what furniture you are going to put in. Wish you'd stop running with those scissors As for doors - as Adrian said - depends on the room. I have a hallway wardrobe that I think sliders will be better - but they are a ain when clothes and thing fall off the shelf - but other wardrobes suit doors as the best way of gaining access.
