Browse Forums General Discussion 1 Jul 07, 2017 8:59 am Hi fellow renovators. I'm at the early stages of planning a renovation to my home in Bayswater Perth. Can anyone recommend an easy to use tool/software to help me plan my renovation. 3D would be great. I'm not a computer wiz so it needs to be easy to use. Thanks, Ron Re: Design/Planning Tool or Software 2Jul 07, 2017 9:52 am Hi Ron505 welcome to the forum You might want to give Sketchup a go There are plenty of tutorials and online resources 3D design software allows you to extract Building Information from your Model (BIM Data) All of the presentation image renderings are done with 3D BIM Software...but unfortunately for Battlers & Punters that is where it usually ends -> Marketing Designs only? .OT.. This is because Builders & Contractors generally hate their clients having access to knowledge & control of Quants, Engineering, Data, costs, etc, etc ... for obvious reasons....A salesman once said " hook 'em with the rendering presentations and slam 'em with the engineering" Make sure your 3D design is BIM engineering enabled.. There are plenty of amazing BIM tools as well ie, Mobile 3D viewers, Project planners and apps please call out if you need assistance Cheers Designer,Engineer (Civil,Const & Envir),Builder,Concrete & Masonry Contract.Struct Repairs Re: Design/Planning Tool or Software 4Jul 09, 2017 8:20 am When you are assessing BIM Software "look at the big picture on how the data, geometry & informations transfers across The Architectural->Engineering->(Simulations)->Construction Industry (AEC) Ive included simulations because clients always ask what are my choices and "what If..." Basically...Simulations = Automation = Optimisation (Best Solution) Trimble who owns Sketchup is seen as the Apple in the BIM software/hardware industry with its laser & surveying devices If I am given a 3D file format to do the 3D engineering, the file must be universal and of a high geometric/data/boundary standard. Start with sketchup.... I am sure we will be able to set new higher standards within the industry. I found Autodesk homestyler to be the most useful - it is easy to use and can draw some nice 3d views https://www.homestyler.com/ Re: Design/Planning Tool or Software 11Mar 16, 2018 3:00 pm Whichever software or app you may choose to use make sure it has Robust Data File Translators so you can move forward to engineering & construction Details, Data.
