We're having our apartment painted before we move in, and don't want any yuck paint smells when we do, but as we won't be living there yet and not spending a heap of time just hanging around doing nothing, we can't leave all the doors and windows open to air it out... Does anyone have anything? Like hanging some special plant or something? lol How the hell did I become a senior member!? I know nothing! Re: Any special way to get rid of new paint smell? 3Aug 21, 2008 8:01 pm Thank you!
Yes, it'll be acrylic (Taubmans or Dulux). The sample pots we put a bit on the walls today were water based and they smelt. Not BAD, but just of paint. I'm really sensitive to paint smells - we used Wattyl ID and it really didn't bother me. Re: Any special way to get rid of new paint smell? 6Aug 21, 2008 8:45 pm you can buy stuff that you put in paint and it is supposed to stop it from smelling so bad

Can't remeber if it worked though - maybe an old wives' tale. Re: Any special way to get rid of new paint smell? 8Aug 21, 2008 8:56 pm I love the smell of fresh paint!

I'm really sensitive to paint smells - we used Wattyl ID and it really didn't bother me. Ditto to wattyl ID we used it too, and barely a smell the next day, and the fumes while painting were not over-bearing either. Then again, after the sealer/prep coat any paint would have seemed perfumed. We would leave all doors & windows open, but as I said, we don’t live there yet, so it’s a little hard to do that. I would have everything open while the painter is actually there doing the work, but once he goes, everything will be locked up again. How the hell did I become a senior member!? I know nothing! Re: Any special way to get rid of new paint smell? 16Aug 22, 2008 12:48 pm Lol. Very good, thank you. (some of the motels around here would smell worse than the paint, me thinks!) If you aren't living in the house the smell will go after a couple of days. Most paints are pretty good. If you drop a log in the john you light a match, maybe light a lot of them around the house? Re: Any special way to get rid of new paint smell? 18Aug 22, 2008 1:02 pm Lol, ok then.
I just wasn’t sure that if the place was shut up from the time painting was complete until we pretty much move in, the paint smell would still be there, that’s all. grace_slick Thank you! Yes, it'll be acrylic (Taubmans or Dulux). The sample pots we put a bit on the walls today were water based and they smelt. Not BAD, but just of paint. (we are sensitive and get paint-headaches) On another note, our painter told us not to try paints on the walls - but to paint it onto a piece of cardboard and hold it up. He said SO many people try paints on their walls and when the painters come in to do it all properly, there's brushstrokes left behind that show up. Re: Any special way to get rid of new paint smell? 20Sep 05, 2008 10:41 am Oh GOD, I know! I know NOW I should say. Nobody told me this before I tried them on the walls. There is one wall in the lounge that has 3 different samples on it, and one in the bedroom (the future feature wall) that also has 3 colours on it, and 2 are quite dark. I’ve mentioned this to the painter and they think it shouldn’t be a problem. Can they just somehow get rid of the colour? How the hell did I become a senior member!? I know nothing!
