Browse Forums General Discussion 1 Aug 20, 2008 2:47 pm I just got a quote (the first one *stressing out*) and it's for...
- Painting 3 walls in master bedroom in standard Dulux Wash & Wear light shade of paint - Painting 1 wall in master bedroom in Dulux suede effects - Painting 3 walls in second bedroom in standard above paint - Painting all walls in living area, including short hallway in above paint - Patching & making good a crack in living room (this has been specified as $360) The overall quote NOT including the $360 for patching of the crack is $1,795 (incl. GST). Is this ok?? (gold coast) How the hell did I become a senior member!? I know nothing! Re: Is this quote for painting ok? 3Aug 20, 2008 3:03 pm lol nothing actually. I have to get them to amend the quote I just realised.
There are obviously 4 walls in both bedrooms, but bedroom 1 has one entire wall taken up with mirrored built-in robes, one wall is normal, another wall is almost all taken up with glass patio sliding doors, and then the 4th wall is the feature wall. (so technically it's not really 4 walls anyway) Bedroom 2 has 3 standard walls (though one is mainly a window), and one wall is entirely mirrored robes again. So...there you go. How the hell did I become a senior member!? I know nothing! Re: Is this quote for painting ok? 5Aug 20, 2008 5:51 pm No idea on painting quotes but my friend has just (and I mean yesterday and today) had all the ceilings painted in her house - 3 bedrooms, lounge, kitchen, dining and large family room and she paid $1,700. She thought it was expensive but the painter does a great job so she was happy to pay it. I think that $1800 for yours sounds reasonable? Happy at Home Re: Is this quote for painting ok? 6Aug 20, 2008 5:59 pm grace_slick - Patching & making good a crack in living room (this has been specified as $360) That seems a bit high. But other than that I think the quote isn’t too bad. I just had a full house painted, plus kitchen cupboards……over $8000 for the job. Must be a fairly large house! Our's is just a 2 bedroom apartment, as I said.
We're getting 2 other quotes so...*fingers crossed* Oh, and apparently $360 is the plasterer's minimum trade price to fix the crack. How the hell did I become a senior member!? I know nothing! The building inspection report said it wasn't a problem, but the painter/builder who quoted us said it was a concern. ?? How the hell did I become a senior member!? I know nothing! Re: Is this quote for painting ok? 10Aug 20, 2008 8:04 pm Wait and see what the next quote comes in at, don’t mention the quote of $360 to the next guys. I'm up to the painting stage of my house, and have been told it will be $5k to do the whole thing (34sq), using Dulux for ceiling and walls... I thought this was kind of expensive, but then I dont know much about it. What do people think? Re: Is this quote for painting ok? 12Aug 20, 2008 8:26 pm SarahJ Hi guys! I thought this was kind of expensive, but then I dont know much about it. What do people think? Is that just internals…..or is that including externals as well? Welcome to the forum. Internal and External Building and Colour Consultant Online - Worldwide http://www.denovoconcepts.com Re: Is this quote for painting ok? 14Aug 21, 2008 1:08 pm So 34 squares was quoted at $5,000....?
My apartment is about 9-10 squares...and I was quoted at almost $2,000...hmm. Is this bad by comparison? It seems to be, but maybe the two can't really be compared properly for some reason. Still...$5,000 for 34 squares of walls AND ceilings, and almost $2,000 for 9-10 squares of ONLY walls? *raised eyebrow* How the hell did I become a senior member!? I know nothing! Re: Is this quote for painting ok? 15Aug 21, 2008 4:22 pm I just spoke to a family friend who is a painter- he said most charge $21-$25 per square metre depending on quality/ price of paint. So there are about 6.45 sq m in a 'square'- this equates to $1612 for 10 sq m @ $25 per/m... So your quote probably is just a little high. And he said make sure they dont just use cheap undercoat and one coat of the good stuff on top. Hope this helps. I didnt realise how expensive painting is! Re: Is this quote for painting ok? 16Aug 21, 2008 7:30 pm I didn't realise either! I honestly assumed painting our place would cost around $600-$800! HAHA! It is to laugh! lol
Anyway, the quote is technically just over $1,600 but it has GST added on, and then the extra $360 for the crack patching and "making good". This also is a company we go through at my work (insurance assessors) and so this price I got is the "insurance discount". We're getting at least one other quote, so we'll see... The good thing (well, another good thing maybe besides the price I guess) of the one we already have is that once they receive approval, they can start in under a week. SO GOOD considering we only have a month before we have to move in. EEP! How the hell did I become a senior member!?
