Browse Forums General Discussion 1 May 15, 2017 7:05 pm The builder we used and trusted left us with the job (pool and gym in back yard) 25pct unfinished. He made us get our home builders license and did not tell us to get HW Insurance nor did he tell us to get a Building Permit. He did not use a private certifier as instructed. He did use an engineer. We had a DA approval from 2014 but during building have changed a few things such as size and location of the gym and pool. But the builder said amendments can be put through council after finishing the job. An indépendant inspector we have asked to look at the works has proved the works is below average in many areas and a few things (not too major) do not apply building code. Where do we go from here? Do we get a Private Certifier in who can organise approval for us. Or do we go straight to Council? Any advise? We have always wanted to do the right thing such as have this approved by council. Any advise will be appreciated. Re: We are in a builders nightmare 2May 15, 2017 8:29 pm Are you saying that you hired a builder who didn't get permits or have insurance and he did poor quality work. Your inspector should be able to give you direction about the quality of the work, if it's within tolerances and the steps to take for permits, which was what most builders would do. Maybe send a personal message to building expert from this forum, he's one he'll of a good inspector from contracts to building tolerances through to expert witness for clients in legal battles. Re: We are in a builders nightmare 4Jun 02, 2017 5:54 pm Sounds like you've got yourself into quite a tough bind right now. I hope that there's an avenue for you to find restitution with this guy and at least he can be held accountable for the crappy job that he's done. At the end of the day, looks like you've paid the price for hiring this guy. I say move forward with a proper, reviewed, rated and verified builder and get the new guys to help rectify the problems you have now. What seems to be the officer's problem? Re: We are in a builders nightmare 5Jun 04, 2017 6:24 pm Where are you at with this builder, has he done a runner , have you got work paid for and not completed. If not get whats done valued, and if it's marginal, move on before your losses become huge. Look at your bill from the electricity company. It should detail the charges.
