Our builder did a cut on the bricks above our front door and other areas which SS said was for them to install a control joints on the brickwork and are required for the occupancy permit to be issued. I can accept the other areas as it is not too visible but I am not happy with the one above the front door. The cut that they did is not even straight. I am going to write an email to to the builder but I want to ask the experts if what they did is normal. Could I demand them to give me some compensation or remedy? I can't imagine that was necessary in that exact spot as the wall is barely wider than the door. It does look awful that is why i am very disappointed. Now drafting a lengthy email to the builder. Building Simonds Prague Re: Control Joints 4Apr 23, 2017 9:18 am Horse Firstly, get a copy of the engineering plans, They should specify where the control joints should go and I have my doubts that they would have specified the joints there. AS4773 Section 7 Deals with control joints Finally, Please find out and post back if a Building Surveyor specified it. You might also want to make enquiries with your Council Building department as well Finally, I have to agree "It looks ugly and has ruined the entry brickwork Another issue would be why there, and possibly what other underlying issues you may have? So cutting that out won't do anything cos it's supposed to have strength in it. Chances are the blade didn't go all the way through cutting the entire brick. They tried to make it look like a control joint but it isn't. Needs to be taken down. Posted some photos from a job that they are currently doing on how it should look like. Control joints are approximately every 5 linear metre. Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ An example of the expansion rod they give them to use in SA. It gets built in. They put in expansion rods in every 5 courses.
