Browse Forums General Discussion 1 Apr 07, 2017 12:09 am We are meant to be demolishing our house on Monday 10 April but unfortunately it is not going to happen as our gas is not disconnected I called AGL on 22 Feb to organise the gas abolishment and they set it up and gave me a date of 30 March . On 27 March I called up to confirm everything for the 30th and was told that it was not done properly and the only thing organised was a final meter read!! I was so upset and angry as I needed to allow 20 business days and now had lost month. Needless to say I was then told to complete a form which I did and it got send to Jemena Gas. I have spoken to Jemena gas everyday, several times a day to make sure it gets expedited. All I can say that there is no rush with them. You need to allow 5 business days for it to get to a contractor and then they have 20 business days to respond. My advice to anyone demolishing is to book your gas abolishment early, make sure you complete a full abolishment form, check the next day that Jemena gas ( or whomever is doing it) has received the form. Good luck and I hope no one has to have the stress and aggravation I am having st the moment. Re: Gas abolishment 2Apr 16, 2017 1:00 am We got a huge surprise that our gas got disconnected on Friday and so we started demolishing o n Monday! Re: Gas abolishment 3Apr 23, 2017 2:34 pm Good to know that you got some good news out of the whole ordeal! Thanks for the heads-up with all the legwork with the gas company and everything. I should think that the authorities in charge of getting all this stuff planned up and settled should know better than to tamper with other deadlines that are hinging on their action lest we complain about them on social media these days though. They can't afford the backlash! What seems to be the officer's problem? Re: Gas abolishment 4Apr 24, 2017 4:54 am ThomasMaloney Good to know that you got some good news out of the whole ordeal! They can't afford the backlash! AGL called me the other day to follow up ( as they required to do due to the ombudsman requirements). I said thank you for getting it done but I want compensation for the aggravation. They let me not pay my last gas bill if $121. Suppose something is better than nothing although I cannot believe they charge $1300 for gas meter removal and gas abolishment. Gas abolishment 5Apr 25, 2017 11:40 pm Jemena are the worst company I have dealt with in my life. They charge $1300 for 40mins of work to abolish a gas line and meter. Watch out, after building our dream home with Fowler, Jemena took 7 weeks to connect my gas meter. Even after complaining to the Energy Ombudsman they just don't care about your situation. Their communication is appalling and you think with an Aussie call centre you wouldn't get as frustrated, but they are like the tax department- stating just timelines and no compassion whatsoever for your situation. Make sure you tell your builder to get the gas connection early in the build and not leave it just before laying Your driveway down like we did. Jemena are what Telstra was 20 years ago, a monopoly in the Energy industry and needs a good look into them. Look at their reviews online, absolutely pathetic. I was on the phone to them nearly everyday for 6 weeks living in a new house without hot water. I was left exhausted and depressed dealing with their ****** and non compassion customer service. I couldn't believe on Easter Saturday they just turned up unannounced and started the works which took a couple of hours. In Sydney the contractors they use are Zinfra and even their workers don't have anything nice to say about them. Unfortunately if you are first time builder like many on this forum, no body tells you about abolishment and the ridiculously high cost involved. I don't know how Jemena can get away with this - well I guess they can because there are no competition. Good luck and again a note to all....if you are doing a Knockdown Rebuild leave plenty of time to arrange gas abolishment and plenty of time to get the reconnection. I wish I read this before starting my build. Haha, you touched a nerve with me after I read your blog. Ray. Thanks Re: Gas abolishment 7Sep 22, 2017 8:32 am We are in the same situation, we advised AGL at the end of August that the house was due to be demolished on the 12th September, it’s the 21 September and we are still waiting. We have called AGL and Jenema constantly to even get a date and aren’t getting any answers!! Re: Gas abolishment 8Sep 22, 2017 10:17 am Get ready for some shouting matches over the phone. AGL/Jemena won't escalate your situation before 21 working days. This is what I meant about builders that don't tell you about this. You need over a month's notice (working days) to arrange abolishment- our knockdown was delayed by 3 weeks because of this too. And I bet you paid over $1200 for it - what a joke, they'll probably be there for only 30min to 1 hour to do it. Good luck.
