Maggie Re: We have started our kitchen reno!!!!!! 2Aug 15, 2008 9:25 pm Have fun, Maggie, hehehe.
We did a kitchen reno in 2000, I well remember stepping over the microwave in the hallway, food spread over the house, fridge squeezed into the laundry (and if you've seen my small laundry, I really mean squeezed  ), washing dishes in the laundry trough etc. But all good fun; worst moment was when box of rice bubbles on top of the TV (in hindsight, not a very clever place to keep them ) got knocked all over the carpet by 2 children arguing over the tellie channel Re: We have started our kitchen reno!!!!!! 3Aug 16, 2008 7:33 am Hi Maggie
goodluck with the reno We are looking at embarking on that journey very shortly If you don't mind me asking, where did you get your kitchen cabinets from? And are you happy with them? Re: We have started our kitchen reno!!!!!! 5Aug 16, 2008 12:40 pm Where are the photos Maggie???? Happy at Home Re: We have started our kitchen reno!!!!!! 6Aug 18, 2008 9:53 am You can see i am a bit stressed out, my first post does not make much sense , I am typing on my lap in the lounge, which looks more like a bomb hit it.... yes, we cannot move here at all.
The pics are comin... , we managed to fit 9 wall cabinets as a high buffet thing and yesterday DH hung two wall cabinets on the kitchen side and took 4 old ones off. He puts them together, I am an apprentice cabinet maker/plasterer/painter as all the walls behind the cabinets need repairing. Tomorrow we have a visit from our Sparky for new powerpoints. We got our cabinets from IKEA, we decided that they are good enough to last us till the end of our days in this house. We are two retired people, no kids or g-kids so we are pretty safe with the not top of the shelf products which are cheap. By the way the old hanging cabinets, also from IKEA are 8 years old and apart from the side that was close to the cook top look like new, so we are using them again, we just swapped the sides that were covered now will be on the outside. We will just change the doors so they are the same as the new ones. I want to go to Brazil next year so it makes no sense to spend all our super on a posh kitchen that will outlive us . This is one argument and second I really like to be involved with the planning and finishes. I like the simple Swedish design, light and airy. However, I agree with many people here that IKEA cabinets are not best quality so if you have kids and use your kitchen a lot get something better and of course it will be more expensive. If we had a local Kevin Brown here , we would have gone with somebody like that but all our quotes from local kitchen makers were 3x as expensive as what we are getting and it was with laminated bench tops and the finishes were not what I would have liked. We are getting cheap granite. The first pics will be here at the end of the week when the first, top part will be finished, at the moment it is a disaster area. Maggie Re: We have started our kitchen reno!!!!!! 7Aug 18, 2008 9:56 am My Aunt had her kitchen done with Ikea cabinets etc last year (my Dad and Uncle did it all for her) and her kitchen looks fantastic! I love Ikea, they have some great ideas and products. Not sure why people bag them all the time Anyway look forward to seeing those pics Maggie! Before and afters please Happy at Home Re: We have started our kitchen reno!!!!!! 8Aug 18, 2008 9:58 am Sounds perfectly logical Maggie! You are doing the right thing! Ikea cabinets will be perfect for your needs.
Brazil!! My brother goes there about once a year. He loves it! I want to go. Jo I leave you to fend for yourself, figure things out yourself.
