Browse Forums General Discussion 1 Mar 18, 2017 3:52 pm Hi there, I am currently not sleeping well in my bedroom / house itself. I think it is the concrete walls, even though we painted them since we moved in. The full story I have already posted on the whilrpool forums (http://forums.whirlpool.net.au/archive/2605600). But the good news is, even though I am suffering and feel like my house is slowly killing me, its lead me to be more interested in hands on and DIY / build with healthy products. So as much as I would love to have someone read this and know exactly what to do (doubtful, since i've already tried so much in the room}, I just want to ask for some general info. I guess firstly what are the rules for healthy building standards in Australia, are they the same as the US? (Hopefully better). Is there anything else besdides low VOC that I should look for in getting new products, such as paints or plastics, etc.? And no I am not an allergic person. And as a long-term solution I am also looking into building a Yurt on this property. But I have never built before and although I am thorough I am not the most hands-on guy. So I have looked at some youtube videos about building a Yurt. And it doesn't look too difficult. But I don't know if should build it (with the hlep of a builder's permit, a coulple of friends and my dad) or pay neearly double the price to get someone else to build it. But besdies a Yurt are there any other: cheap, easy-to-build, healthy accomodation building options that I could do, that will withstand the future wild weather? I am sorry for all the questions. I have reached the end of my tether with this room and just want to really understand future big decisions so I don't make the same mistakes again. Sure have a crack at Building something yourself, just ensure you have enough time on your hands to see it through, building something as an owner builder is a full time job. Good luck!
