Browse Forums General Discussion 1 Nov 27, 2006 9:49 pm Has anybody here had a power pole moved, or know someone who has ? We are looking at moving our driveway as part of building a new house on our block, and the power pole is in the way. We need it moved 2.2 metres.
Would love to hear about anyone else's experience with regards to process, effort and cost. Cheers, Justin. Re: Moving a power pole in Melb S.E suburbs ? 2Dec 23, 2006 5:34 pm Justin
This is quite easy but somewhat expensive. Contact your electricity distibutor, (not your retailer to whom you pay your quarterly bill) to request a quotation or an offer to have the pole relocated. The distributor ownes all the electricity poles, wires and cables in your area. I suspect being in S.E suburbs of Melbourne it is Alinta. Good luck Re: Moving a power pole in Melb S.E suburbs ? 3Dec 23, 2006 8:12 pm Thanks for that. You suspect correctly, the distributor is Alinta. Alinta's project manager has given me a price for the move, as have Optus. Am now waiting on Telstra, apparently the contractor they got to quote has come back with a ridiculous price (approx $10k!!!) ![]() ![]() Cheers, Justin. Re: Moving a power pole in Melb S.E suburbs ? 4Feb 14, 2011 8:47 pm anyone else had this problem?? We have a power pole out the front and it means we can only have a 1 car garage. We definitely need a 2 car (we have 3 cars between us!) We've been told to expect to pay $10-$15k. I think we will probably go ahead.... surely when we come to selling in 10-15 years time... that extra park in the garage will pay for itself. anyone? Nonna's Nest House set for completion November 2013 Re: Moving a power pole in Melb S.E suburbs ? 5Feb 14, 2011 11:50 pm I suppose it is a subcontractor who will carry the job since these companies do not have any more permanent filed people. What stops you from contracting directly and the have one of the responsible companies to approve the move? My cost you less that way Re: Moving a power pole in Melb S.E suburbs ? 6Feb 15, 2011 10:25 am I dont know about Victoria but in NSW the power providers dont do those sort of jobs themselves, they also dont subcontract out the job. There is a list on the fairtrading website of level 1, 2 and 3 ISP accredited providers - you contact the company directly and they handle everything. The network provider should be able to point you in the direction of some accredited providers or point you in the direction of the list. For a simple pole relocation $10 000 does sound way over the top. Hi Mrboh Just wondering if you have any BAL or flame zone issues on your block, as getting compliance with BAL requirements whilst doing bearers and joists is tough. Not… 1 1830 ![]() 10 4714
