Browse Forums General Discussion 1 Mar 01, 2017 12:21 pm Hi there, we have American Oak engineered floors through our house, it makes constant cracking and snapping noises when you walk on it, we have been trying for 4 years to get a resolution through the suppplier and now after saying that installation is okay that we need expansion gaps in the doorways, not possible as I have a disability and it would be a trip risk. We weren't told this in the first place. We've been told that the noise is within limits and normal . It's loud enough to hear over the television and has woken us at night. This floor was recommended by the supplier for wheelchair ease. It's a nightmare, has anyone else had this problem. Johlyn. Re: Noisy engineered wood floors 2Mar 01, 2017 8:31 pm Sorry to hear. If there aren't expansion gaps around the whole area then it isn't installed properly. Does it have underlay too? That helps with noise when walked on (or wheeled over). Gaps in doorways should be covered by a thin piece of trim so would only be a very small risk. If it doesn't have a gap or trim cover then, again, it's not installed properly. You'll need to find someone impartial to check it out, not the people who installed it. Re: Noisy engineered wood floors 3Mar 01, 2017 10:22 pm Hi Berek, Yes there is underlay and there are the proper expansion gaps, they are only saying now after 4 years that expansion gaps at the doorways might help, this is the supplier saying this now after they said on all occasions that there is not a problem with the installation, it has all been done right. Yes we will have to go through ATFA for an independent report. 18 90424 Hi, I have a double and whenever the wind picks up I can hear alot of banging in certain areas of the house.
