I went to one of the lowest rating public schools in my area, where there were bashings, drug dealers, and stabbling on a regular basis. But if you didn't associate with those people, it never affected you. I did TEE, got a very very high school, went to a top uni in the state, and I am a qualified Engineer. It's how you're brought up, and I think I did better going to that school too. I think if I had gone to a strict school, all I would've wanted to do when I had gotten to uni was go out and party, and break the rules. Because I went there, what we did with our lives was up to us, and I wanted to go to uni and become an Engineer. I had friends at uni from top private schools who would fail unit after unit because they had no rules and couldn't committ. My whole family are all studying or have steady jobs, and the majority haven't attended uni. I was the first to graduate from uni. My family is wonderful, supportive and close, and I think they have definitely helped make myself who I am today. Although I can say, on an odd exception, you can get a wild child that you can't control. My closest friend comes from a family of 4 as well, and they are all going well except for the oldest who at 15 ran away from home with a 35 year old boyfriend, is on drugs, and the family had to take a restraining order against her as she would steal good from their house to buy drugs, and has bashed up the youngest sister, but the rest of the family is a good family, and even as hard as the parents tried, there was nothing they could do. NB: They live in a posh area in Perth and all went to top private schools, so once again, it proves area isn't a problem.
