Browse Forums General Discussion 1 Feb 21, 2017 10:21 pm I am looking for advice on a doggy door. Our new house will have a glass door (not sliding) WIN21 from the laundry to outside. We want to install the dog door in the laundry. We have heard a glass dog door is expensive but to change our glass door to another door is an expensive upgrade. Any advice will be appreciated. We like the WIN21 as it will bring light in from the laundry through to the butlers panty Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ This door below is a $338 door upgrade but will be cheaper to install the dog door. We have also heard people have gone through the brick wall but I am not sure how that works and if Eden Brae would allow it. Any advice welcome! Re: pet door 4Feb 23, 2017 11:20 pm I have the same thing in my build. Ended up putting in a solid wood door and adding a window for light. From what I understand with adding a dog door in glass - they have to remove the entire glass panel and replace it with a new panel which has the dog door in it, which makes them expensive. Another thing to consider with glass dog doors is they get dirty very easily, not just the actual door but the surrounding glass is going to be constantly marked and require cleaning. Being lazy I figured a solid door would look much better and require a lot less cleaning on my behalf so I went with that. Only bit that gets dirty is the flap he uses to go in and out. It is secured to the door jamb and has a security flap too. Its like having another much smaller door as part of your sliding doors. I think mine was around $300. All up. Re: pet door 6Feb 24, 2017 1:45 pm We are having the same thing in our laundry, so I'm also interested.. was considering having crimsafe put in on the outside.. but I have no idea how the whole doggy door thing will work - we previously has crimsafe on the old house and they installed the doggy door - not sure how they would then work in conjunction with another door? Did you have any luck with yours? I get the impression as it is single glazing it shouldn't be too hard to cut a bit of a glass if need be, but perhaps also just the wood at the bottom. If your dog can jump up and through (unlike our sausage!) then just cutting through the glass would be much simpler. P. Re: pet door 10Apr 30, 2017 7:39 pm We have left it and we will see what happens post handover. What I have read is that the whole pane of glass needs to be replaced. Re: pet door 12May 02, 2017 12:05 pm LouBir It comes with the entire piece. you don't need to add anything. Mine is glass. Who did you use and what is the cost please? I also got the screen door adaptor. The ultimate thing wasn't available when I purchased 18 months ago. I had a handyman install it, but anybody who is good with a drill could manage. http://www.modernpetdoors.com.au/ Re: pet door 14May 02, 2017 1:09 pm Re: pet door 15May 02, 2017 8:00 pm I've seen those before, Waldorf. As long as your dog can jump up and through that seems like a good way of doing it. I gather cutting the round hole in the glass is fiddly but not hard for them to do. Re: pet door 16Jul 10, 2018 10:30 pm As an update, we swapped the 'win21' door for Corinthian's 'Backdoor No.6' which is stained wood on the bottom and glass on the top. I hope that this will be easier to cut a dog door into when the time comes. Re: pet door 17Jul 04, 2020 10:50 am More updates - the builder stuffed up and installed the win21 door and it was too late to change. The toughened glass wasn’t able to be cut - could have got another bit of glass installed but went with a new door from Bunnings and installed the dog door in the bottom. The amount of light into the laundry is fine with just the glass top half I think. Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ Black on light wood does look good.
