Browse Forums General Discussion 1 Nov 28, 2016 2:19 pm Our neighbours approached us about 3 weeks ago to let us know they want to replace the boundary fence which is 13mtrs. They are doing colourbond. No labor costs as they are doing it themselves. Only material cost. They gave us a figure of $1600 and to pay half that. Immediately thinking that amount was a bit excessive for materials for that length, I asked them to provide us an itemized quote which they were happy to do so. He just dropped me off the quote today and all he has done is written it out himself and put the total amount at the bottom. He also told me he has already bought everything and is starting it soon. The only reason I am thinking this amount is ridiculously high is because we just got 13mtrs of brand new pool fence put in ASWELL as 13 mtrs of colourbond moved to the front boundary INCLUDING labor for all this was $1600. Can I please have peoples opinions, I'm going crazy. I was thinking of going for a trip to bunnings with the list of materials he has mentioned on his quote and adding it up myself. Is $1600 for 13 mtrs of colourbond including posts, concrete ect... expensive? Re: boundary fence question 3Nov 30, 2016 6:02 pm Taking this back a step - what was the condition of the old fence? Not sure about other states, but if the old fence was in good condition and it is only being changed for aesthetics because one neighbour wants it, in SA there is no obligation for the 2nd owner to pay... (I am building and will be updating my back fence at my own expense because of this) Re: boundary fence question 4Dec 02, 2016 3:50 pm About $100 per metre materials for a 6ft high colorbond fence is about right right. Pool fencing is not colorbond fencing.
Just ask to see his purchase invoices for these materials. Also phantaztik's post above is very relevant - you do not have to pay for other peoples whims. But if the fence was in poor condition, the decent thing to do would be to contribute some money (or beers) for your neighbour's effort in doing the labour for free for your half.http://www.homeone.com.au/member/phantaztik Re: boundary fence question 6Dec 06, 2016 1:20 pm It does sound expensive. We would suggest contacting either LYSAGHT or Dunn & Farrugia for comparative quotes Regards, Peter (COLORBOND® steel) For fifty years, Australian families have been building, and experimenting with how COLORBOND® steel can add to the fabric of their family home - it's much more than just a roof over their heads.
