I am not going to be building until 2018, but already doing research to ensure I know what I'm getting into. My chosen area is Apple Tree Creek in the Bundaberg/Childers area.
Does anyone know much about snakes in this area? I am planning to build on slab -- I have a broken femur (even after the operation) and don't want to do stairs, plus don't want to be coming home to find snakes curled around entry stairs (which used to happen at my childhood home in Corinda, Brisbane). Those snakes were harmless carpet snakes (our pet galah who became breakfast one day would beg to differ), but I am aware there is also a brown snake problem in Qld. Can homes really be snake-proofed? I have 3/4 acre and am planning to market garden the non-house part of the property. But after many years of snake-proof Sydney life, am not too keen to encounter brown snakes when I head out to weed. I've read that some companies sell sonar systems that claim to deter snakes, but have also read they don't work.
I will have a dog and cat on the property, too, so am keen not to annoy them with sonar or snakes.
