Browse Forums General Discussion 1 Nov 17, 2016 6:13 pm Hi guys, quick one, how far is too far from bathroom to hot water? We currently have 26m to bathroom but 8m to ensuite. We can have 18m to bathroom and 8m to ensuite but the service would be very visable. How much difference would moving the service make? Is the 26m just too far to have quick hot water? Chris Re: Hot water distance to bathroom. 2Nov 17, 2016 6:38 pm If you know your pipe diameters, Pi x r2 will give you your volume. A 26 m distance usually has +30 m of pipe but this is variable, depending on the end fixtures locations. Water is usually limited to a maximum flow velocity of 2.3 m/s although 3.0 m/s is allowed. If your pipe flows at 2 mps, the water won't start to get hot for 15 seconds plus another 3 seconds due to the pipe's heat exchange effect. Most persons would consider this unacceptable. It must be remembered that modern water saving fixtures do not favour high flow rates through the pipes and so your delivery would be slower than my example. By way of example, a pipe with an internal diameter of 16mm has a volume of 1 litre per five metres or 45 metres per 9 litres. A 9 lpm fixture means that the example pipe's flow rate (delivery) would be 45 metres every 60 seconds. This is much less than 2 m/s. The flow rate is calculated by the volume and velocity through the smallest offtake's ID at the end fixture. 3in1 Supadiverta. Rainwater Harvesting Best Practice using syphonic drainage.
