We have built a new home with a high quality builder. We chose to pay extra for a premium white engineered stone for the kitchen bench tops, 40mm. It was never mentioned to us that because we chose a white stone, there would be a very noticeable black line through the join along all of the edges, defeating the purpose of paying extra for 40mm thick stone!
However, the most concerning thing is the 'dullness' of the stone, and that every single fingerprint seems to be staying on the stone, and doesn't even clean off with soapy water. I know that the stone mason has used acetone on the stone and left it on there (he did it in from of us), even though it is on the list of products not to use on the stone! But he assured us that the acetone would evaporate off. However, something definitely has damaged the surface of the stone, and taken the gloss away. It does not seem normal that fingerprints can not be wiped off the stone??
We are still one week away from handover, and have had several meetings with the builder, stonemason, and rep from the stone company, however, no one is claiming responsibility, or admitting that there is a problem!
So, the question it... what should we do now? I don't want to accept handover for a stone that is poor quality, but we are getting bullied into this on all fronts.
