Browse Forums General Discussion 1 Aug 09, 2008 5:57 pm Hello
In my new place I have a hall cupboard with 2 sliding door panels. Right now the panels are not to my liking, as they're just wide panels with nothing on them. (no mirror, nothing) I want them replaced with louvered sliding doors, BUT I have a few questions... 1. I DON'T want the wide sort of long/wide louvers...it's hard to explain. I do have a picture, but photobucket is down so I can't put it here. Dammit. I don't know if these particular doors are just old or not as well made, but I don't like them. I don't know if any 2 panel louvered doors would look like these ones, and if so, I'd need to consider having 3 panels (like we'll have in our bedrooms with the 3 panel mirrorred sliding doors). I do suspect maybe 3 slightly narrower panels might look nicer than 2 wide ones. 2. Who do I get to do this? Meaning, is it better to just get a door person to source or make the door panels and then install them, OR do I find a place that sells these doors (once I work out the measurements and whether they'll fit on the tracks we have now, or whether we'd need new tracks, etc) and then buy those doors and then get any old handyman to install them? I suppose the second option would be cheaper, but I'd be scared I'd end up buying the wrong type of doors and they wouldn't fit when the handyman went to install them. Thank you! Can you buy or have made doors that are 2 panel sliders but LOOK like 4 panels? (each panel has 2 narrow panel things on them but they're on one panel?) How the hell did I become a senior member!? Re: How to go about getting sliding louvered doors installed? 3Aug 09, 2008 7:39 pm Cant help you as to where you get them from sorry, but just to say that we had these in our last house and I found them to be a pain in the back side. They jammed all the time, came off their hinges etc and also looked pretty old fashioned. I'd much rather just have traditional doors. I'm just not a fan
They do look pretty nice in pic 2 though I must admit Re: How to go about getting sliding louvered doors installed? 4Aug 09, 2008 8:06 pm Oh dear. lol
Well, I've always loved them, so each to their own I guess!! We've also got a nice room divider screen we recently bought from Freedom which looks similar to Pic 2, with the louvered bits and then flat panels at the bottom, and we also want to get plantation shutters for the windows (big sliding doors to the patio/balcony) so we're hoping all of that will tie in together. Ah now that all sounds lovely together Re: How to go about getting sliding louvered doors installed? 7Aug 09, 2008 9:59 pm Grace just a suggestion out of left field. Check out some demolitions and second hand places. You may pick up an absolute bargain that you could strip and stain yourself.
Jo I leave you to fend for yourself, figure things out yourself. Terrence Malick Re: How to go about getting sliding louvered doors installed? 8Aug 09, 2008 10:51 pm The doors that you like that you have photos of are not sliding doors, but bifolds. Not sure how you would get 3 sliding louvre doors - you may have to get them custom made.
Judie Re: How to go about getting sliding louvered doors installed? 9Aug 10, 2008 11:16 am Yeah, I actually realised that after peering at all the pics. They all seem to be bi-folds except the one I DON'T want, which is sliding. Blegh.
I was wondering if we could get bi-folds put on INSTEAD of sliding. That'd be ideal, cause with sliding panel things, you're always restricted as there's always one panel in the way, whereas with bi-folds, they fold completely out of the way. OR maybe someone could get doors that are sliding panels (2 panels) but look like 4 bi-fold style panels. I'll figure it out. lol How the hell did I become a senior member!?
