Browse Forums General Discussion 1 Oct 12, 2016 7:38 pm Does anyone have any idea on the Building codes (if any) regarding rectilfied tiles? Most people ,us included, have chosen these tiles because of the minimal gaps/grout between tiles leading to an almost 'seemless' floor. We have also been charge a hefty amount for this option. From reading blogs, there seems to be different standards in the industry. My understanding at the time was that the gap should be no more than 2mm, however some have stated that the standard is between 1-3 mm. Beaumonts have informed some clients that some companies will only do between 3-5mm. I think this is unacceptable considering that laying charge is nearly twice the price. Any information would be appreciated. I called beaumonts and they said Coral wont go any smaller than 3mm on floor and 1.5mm on walls. Ive looked and cant see any Australian standard that actually specifies a mm size. If i had my time again id somehow get it included in your contract incase you get a straighty 180 supervisor who wont budge, otherwise could meet your tiler onsite before anfld hope they agree _________________________ Building the Noosa 26 with Coral Homes https://forum.homeone.com.au/viewtopic.php?f=31&t=80794 Re: Tolerances for rectified porcelain tiles 3Oct 12, 2016 8:39 pm Ryalls_first_build I have this concern also as our rectified tiles have been laid with a 3mm spacer. It's ridiculous. I wonder what their display homes have...? Might even go in to Beaumont Tiles and play dumb just to gauge what they say. I'm sure I asked about this at the time but I don't have anything in writing. Only in wet areas? What's your question exactly? Why so much $$$$? Laying tiles is painful at the best of times Re: Tolerances for rectified porcelain tiles 8Oct 15, 2016 1:45 pm I'm not disputing that tiles are a pain to lay. I'm not disputing the fact that we are charged more...'happy' to incur those charges, however there are expectations that the grout lines will be minimal and to a certain standard otherwise people would just go with regular tiles. We were charged $5400 for the up-grade. It only talks about the grout being of even colour, without voids, etc M Y C U S T O M C O R A L B R O N T E 43 ...............Kitchen! 16 Nov 2016 https://forum.homeone.com.au/viewtopic.php?f=31&t=79581 Re: Tolerances for rectified porcelain tiles 10Oct 15, 2016 1:48 pm MrsJM Yeah unfortunately building code doesn't address it nor does the guide to standard and tolerances.
