They don't roll directly up and on rails like most do nowadays. Does anybody know? What are they called? I am not going to be installing an electric garage door opener. moderated by vanderlay - advertising link removed....conversation left... Yes, they're still manufactured. What state are you in ? Just google 'tilt-a-door' & you'll find some links. Site Admin/ Mods, over to you ... A bit of insight into what the Mods go through to keep spammers out....I think I'd give 'em a break for the one or two that get through. homeone Hi all, Yes, it does take a little while to activate forum membership as of late, as we're constantly filtering through masses of robot-spam subscriptions - one by one, and it's all done manually. The ratio of robot-spammers to genuine subscribers is about 4 to 1. So for every 150 genuine memberships, there's ~600 robot-spammer accounts that need to be dealt with. Previously, subscribers were automatically activated, which meant a lot less work for us, and ['unscreened'] anyone could post immediately including our much loved spammers which would explain all the porn that would slip through the net and amongst your valued threads. It was decided sometime ago to simply 'kill off the risk of unwanted posts' altogether to make forum.homeone.com.au a happier, and cleaner place, as a result, MANUAL ACTIVATION. For prompt subscription to this forum, please simply: REPLY to "New user account" email which is emailed to new member upon subscription; and Membership will be manually ACTIVATED in shorter time. Otherwise, if you're an existing member and you're wanting to query the activation of someone you know, please PM their username to me. On another note, there is the option of recruiting more willing Moderators to help fight SPAM, which would allow us to then convert back to the former automatic [and instant] method of activation. Our existing Moderators do a wonderful job, and could use a good hand from a stronger Moderator-base. What do our members think? You could always volunteer....! mmm....donuts Homer Simpson 1956- Links: Site Costs Ready Reckoner | H1 Addiction Medical Advice | Château TDL: The Backyard Re: old style garage doors? 8Aug 08, 2008 10:44 am to_do_list Duminda Recently we have seen quite a few posts that were more or less disguised advertising, but this one is a really misleading as it is worded like a genuine question from a home owner Site Admin/ Mods, over to you ... Wow! didn't know it was that bad ... sorry Mods. I will consider volunteering after they finish my house (too many things on the plate right now) Re: old style garage doors? 9Aug 08, 2008 11:07 am Duminda Recently we have seen quite a few posts that were more or less disguised advertising, but this one is a really misleading as it is worded like a genuine question from a home owner Site Admin/ Mods, over to you ... Initially they get away with it, as it does look real. I wonder how many people realised the signature is the advertising? The benefit to the spammer, is that the more clicks this page gets, the more his sig link is exposed, and effectively, the greater prescence it will begin to get on search engines. On another forum I'm on, they banned links in signatures due to abuse, but this practice just hurts everybody, as genuine users will want to link to their blog or myspace page. Another covert ad trick on forums that accept BB code, is to write your post like: Hey, I'm new here[url= www,advertising-spam.com],[/ url] (I have put spaces in so the url tags show up). In this case the full stop at the end hides the link. A lot of people will miss it, but when google & other search engines scan the page, they will find it, and on very popular forums, with many members & page views, this can result in some very big 'improvements' in the spammed site's google rankings.[/url] It's a classic case of aesthetics subjugating function where style takes precedence over practicality. 3 3941 The Dulux colour consultants are awesome.
