Browse Forums General Discussion 1 Aug 25, 2016 1:19 pm Hi all, How easy is it to alter the roofline when you replace a roof? In our case our current roof is tin and will be replaced by Colorbond. There are two particular changes I'd like to make. At the front of the house on the righthand side there is a low, flat roof over the porch. Half of this low bit extends inside into our dining room (which used to be an external porch, the existing porch is a later addition), so the dining room ceiling is quite low. The rest of the ceilings are 270cm so it a big difference. I have no idea what configuration would be needed but any ideas if raise this roofline would be very difficult? In the pic below it's in where left side of the gable dips down. The window next to the antenna is the room with the low ceiling. Ideally this would be raised too, without losing the gable. Or can roofers normally do it all And would I need a set of plans drawn up and approved by council as the roof like is being altered? Re: Replace roof and change roofline? 2Sep 23, 2016 3:18 pm Hi simnapted, You must first get a designer who understands roof shapes and roof construction and in particular the Light Timber Framing Code (Residential Timber Framing Code). Because when you alter roof framing, the loads are often carried further, loading portions of the existing wall framing more than previously (particularly lintels). This in turn carries down to the floor framing, stumps and footings. All of these framing members affected will need to be up-graded if the loads are to be increased. ok thanks - yes was wondering if that should have been listed as Option Three! 2 7703 Your house roof does not show rusting other than some surface rust on the flashings. In my opinion you dont need to replace or paint the roof other than treat surface rust… 1 10105 |
