Browse Forums General Discussion 1 Aug 03, 2016 2:48 pm hi all I'm interested in getting land in the south east suburbs of Melbourne around Narre warren. I see alot of ok land. Sometimes there's 1 storey houses on both sides of vacant land. I was wanting to build a 2 storey house. It will have balconies at the front and back of the house. I was wondering do you need permission off neighbours or council if you can build a 2 storey house? I see somethings on the net about right to light and some complaining when 2 storey houses are built next to there's and things like its ok as long as you build it before theres is built. What if theres is already built. I don't want to be buying land only to be told i cant build the house there. Lets say that theres a whole street of single storey houses with a big land and i puchased a house and did knockdown rebuild and wanted to put a 2 storey house there would that be ok? Real estate agents say to ask the council. Councils say to ask the neighbours. By the time you finish asking the lands already sold. Re: can you build a 2 storey house wherever you want? 2Aug 04, 2016 11:35 am No you do not need to get permission to build a two storey house unless there i a caveat on the land or you are building more than one dwelling on the subject land which will trigger a planning permit.
