Browse Forums General Discussion 1 Aug 02, 2016 12:56 pm G'day, I have bee hives that I have had for years. When I first built them they were treated pine. I oil based Primed oil Undercoat and a coat of oil White Gloss. I was had a 10 lt tin of Silver Roof Paint that I have used to top coat the hives every few years. It is all used now. I have built new hives and am almost ready to paint them. Also the older hives need a touch up. I checked the prices of paint in Bunnings and asked for assistance on what was best. Different people gave me different answers. Are there any beekeepers that paint their hives with Water Based Paint? Why is Silver Paint so expensive? I would appreciate any suggestions. Paint that does not cost an arm & a leg!! I managed to find oil based Sealer and Undercoat and oil based Top Coat. $15 the lot. The Paint Shop had some old stock Silver Root Paint 10 lt for $50. That will last me until I die for sure. The advantage of being retired give you a chance to look around to bet the bargains. Cheers Guys Perry We built in 2013 and painted internally with the Taubmans colour 'Stonebridge - New Housing'.
