Browse Forums General Discussion 1 Jun 07, 2016 12:07 am Hi guys, It's been 2 weeks since the white set was done and after testing the walls with a moisture meter, they ranged from 12 - 14% which seems to be considered fine to seal. Ideally I would wait a few more weeks to be sure but the tilers are booked in to start next week (bathroom, ensuite & main floor) so it would be soooo much easier to get in and do the painting beforehand! Would I be fine to seal and paint from this weekend (3 weeks cure time) or should i wait and just deal with having the whole house tiled which means taking a lot more care and using more drop sheets etc? Re: White set curing time 2Jun 07, 2016 8:40 am AS 2311 : The Painting of Buildings stipulates 4 to 6 weeks after the white set has been applied IF the wall has been allowed to dry out sufficiently beforehand. It also says that moisture levels should be below 16%. Personally I'd give it the full amount of time and get the walls to a lower level of moisture even though it is a bigger pain to paint after. Can you get them to tile just the bathrooms? Then come back for the other later after you've painted ? Stewie Re: White set curing time 3Jun 07, 2016 12:41 pm The other issue is shrinkage. As the plaster dries it shrinks sometimes forming very fine hair line cracks. The longer one leaves the plaster before painting, the less chance that the cracks will show through the painted wall. Re: White set curing time 4Jun 07, 2016 7:42 pm Thanks guys...exactly the detailed responses I was hoping for! I'm waiting to hear back from my SS but fingers crossed I can delay the main floor tiling until July. Another 3 weeks to cure would make me feel a whole lot better about it!
