Browse Forums General Discussion 1 Aug 26, 2008 10:49 am Hi All,
I'm in the middle of some hefty structural (steel) work at my home, and am presently digging for some underpins and pads. Only one of the pins presents me with a problem, in that it will still be supporting single brick veneer work. I am excavating (l)1000 x (w) 600 x (d) 1200, around a footing of (w)480 x (d)400. My problem is I'd like to support and prop the footing somehow in order to minimise collapse risk. I'd also like to keep it propped whilst I pour and also when I dry pack and ram mortar. The gap between the pour and the underside of the footing will be 75. Any ideas? The digging is killing me. However, I highly recommend a small post hole digger, they work an absolute treat, particularly for lateral work....... It will be done Re: Underpinning - Propping Up My Strip Footing! 2Aug 27, 2008 3:18 pm Any chance of a little sketch or drawing outlining your predicament. Its hard to visualise what the dilema is, and how to address it.
Pat. Thanks 3Aug 29, 2008 1:18 pm Hi Pat and thanks. I attempted to get a sketch up but couldn't upload it - nevertheless I shored vertically and will remove and pour tomorrow. All up I removed about 6 cubic metres of clay from four sites. Can't wait to fill 'em! It will be done Re: Underpinning - Propping Up My Strip Footing! 4Aug 29, 2008 1:33 pm usually it will support itself that is why you only do small sections at a time. PM me your email. I have a build excavation calculator you can use based on your plans to double check what your builder is telling you. Cheers Simeon 1 25396 I've dug some footings to embed a post anchor into. My holes are around 450mm deep which I'll put a 200mm stirrup into. The bottom of these holes seem firm enough. … 0 10685 there is a standard besser block wall pdf somewhere online with footing sizes, also have a look at dincel. 1 11898 |
