Browse Forums General Discussion 1 Jul 29, 2008 6:10 pm hi experienced forum friends,
how can I verify whether a company exists? I found this add for granite benchtops from$240 a linnear metre of granite kitchen benchtop. The only thing they provide is a telephone no and first name of the person ie. Goerge. Despite the fact that they also give an internet site for them there is no address. They call themselves Omegastone.info. When I looked at this site it looked like part of an American site. What do you think? Is it a scheme? Maggie Re: too good to be true how to verify whether company exists 2Jul 29, 2008 6:47 pm ask for their abn and then search it on http://www.asic.gov.au/
i searched the name and found a few called omegastone, but you'd need to the abn to match up which is the specific one. It tells you the status of the company (ie if it has been deregistered or wound up) Re: too good to be true how to verify whether company exists 5Jul 30, 2008 1:35 am Well here they are, the name, address, phone number and email:

But it still looks fishy to me , yahoo address and only post box, yes, there is a name.... however.... ???? I think we will go to this company KexKez from the South WA recommended, at least they seem like a real workshop.
Yes I am not a trusting person being a female on the wrong side of 50 who has to deal with all sort of sales people with this kitchen reno, perhaps I watch too much of Current Affair . Maggie Re: too good to be true how to verify whether company exists 7Jul 30, 2008 2:34 pm I had a look at the website...its too amateurist (is there such a word) to be a scam.
Most scam sites would never list the phone numbers let alone the fax number. The reason this guy doesn't list his address is probably b/c he works from home and has good supplier that he can buy from. I think it looks legit just don't pay them until the job is done then you should be fine. Re: too good to be true how to verify whether company exists 8Jul 30, 2008 4:19 pm Thanks guys, , now it is looking better. For such a price even I will be happy to have stone tops, this person rang me in the morning and sounded very nice. I am going to have a look at his range on Saturday and yes, he said he is working from home. We will see and I will keep you posted. If it is OK it is good news for Perthites . I must be watching too much of those stupid programs about untrustworthy people .

I bought one from someone else but similar price for my new vanity upstairs One thing to check is the bullnosing, quite often its very wavvy. I got square edge so it was a non-issue It also weighs a LOT, get it delivered if you can Re: too good to be true how to verify whether company exists 14Aug 04, 2008 6:55 pm Thanks guys... a little update,
we went and had a look, and yes. this company was just unloading a whole heap of stuff. We talked to the owner/manager and it appears they have a huge backlog and want to sell fast. So... I am happy with the price, it turns out cheaper than granite transformations. It should be installed second week of September, in the meantime we will be tiling and putting cupboards in. Expect pics in about two months time. Maggie Re: too good to be true how to verify whether company exists 15Aug 04, 2008 7:44 pm HI Maggie . so who did you end up going with? Re: too good to be true how to verify whether company exists 16Aug 04, 2008 8:03 pm The person's co. who will be fitting the benchtop is called Omegastone, Mullaloo, the guy is Scotish, but the supplier is Granite by Design in Bayswater. The suppliers have all kinds of finishes, bullnose, square skinny (20mm) square thick (40mm). You have to wait for some colours as it is a small company and they do not have enough space to store it . Anyhow we have booked the job for 11th of September. I am excited .
