I drove past some houses during the week end and it seems to me that the houses with eaves on the garage side looks more finished what do you think? It may also be that on some houses they have pushed their garages as close to the boundary as possible so they wouldn't be allowed any roof overhang anyway. If your garage is set back from the side boundary more then it wouldn't be a problem to have eaves. We had to remove the eaves on one side of our house because they counted the widest point of the house(the eaves) which didn't then have correct clearance our builders said it's not always the case.
