Browse Forums General Discussion 1 Jul 27, 2008 3:51 pm Hey guys
We settle on our apartment in 3 weeks, and then we can FINALLY get in there and start doing things re renovations!!! YAY! I've been sitting back, planning and worrying, but a friend of my partner the other day asked if we'd booked in any quotes, and we're like, no, why? It's weeks away! They said painters/builders can often be booked out for months ahead, and we should book at least a quote ASAP, and if possible, a tenantive time period for the actual work. Is this right or is this friend being a bit paranoid? (this is the Gold Coast, bear in mind) Once we can get into our place, we have about 3-4 weeks to move in and everything must be done by then (paint first, then carpet. The other things we want can be done once we're in without much inconvenience). Should we be doing stuff now? Even though we can't get quotes right now? How can we possibly book them in, not just for quotes, but for the actual repairs, if we don't even know who we'll be going through!?!? This is further complicated by the fact I work in insurance and can get a discount if I get the quotes through my work. Help!? How the hell did I become a senior member!? I know nothing! Re: How much notice do painters need? 2Jul 27, 2008 4:42 pm YES, I'd be booking quotes in, in the next few weeks.
When they quote you ask what time frame they will be able to start the work - this will help determine the choice of tradesman as well. Paula Re: How much notice do painters need? 3Jul 28, 2008 11:16 am Ok, so if I book the quotes in say, 2-3 weeks ahead of time (like, 2-3 weeks before they actually quote), that’s ok and not too early? I don’t want to seem silly.
And so when they quote me, I ask them then when they can start work and also how long they’d take to complete it? (I hear some people are quite different in this regard. Some will take 5 days to paint a whole apartment, including more than one coat, and the feature wall, while others might take 2 weeks cause they’re busy and can’t come everyday to paint your place, etc) Cause yeah, if someone has the cheapest quote but can’t do the work for a month, I’d obviously go with the next best one. Thanks so much for the wise words!! Oh, also, is it true you can’t get all 3 things in a contractor/painter – low cost, high quality work, and fast service? Is it true you can only ever get 2 out of 3? How the hell did I become a senior member!? I know nothing! 7 11984 I thought this would be a popular question but I haven't been able to find any similar posts. Perhaps I'm wording my searches wrong?
