We are potentially going to be building a new home. There's still some major things that need to be sorted but I'd like to do some homework prior. I was hoping to get a list of recommended builders in Melbourne that I can start looking up. Just to provide more details: 1. If all goes to plan, this new home will be housing my in-laws as well. 2. It has to be a single storey as it will be way easier for them to move around as they get older. 3. We don't need the most luxurious builds but something of great quality and someone trustworthy would be great. This will pretty much be our forever home. 4. At this stage there's a rough budget in mind, but I'd like to see all the options available EVEN if I won't go for it. Just an exercise on opening my eyes to what is out there if nothing else. Thanks in advance! Re: Requesting for a recommended list of builders in Melbour 2Mar 23, 2016 11:38 am Wow, having lived with my ILs for over two years you are very brave about (1). Cultures vary I know. Do you have kids yet? My guess is maybe not. Consider the legal ramifications. Who is paying for what? How will ownership be divided? What if you have kids? Hei Leksie, we thought long and hard about it...trust me... but we've decided that in the long run it would be best. That's not to say we aren't still thinking about it. But we believe we can make it work. Yes we have two and both are really sticky to grandpa . The ownership bit though not confirmed is probably going to be under our names - as that's just how my ILs are. Hey Charley, thanks for that. We've been looking and clipping stuff online for the time being. Just trying to find a trustworthy builder when the time comes to move to the next stage. Thanks. Sorry not a really helpful post as you asked a specific question. Good luck with the build. Are you thinking custom or project? You might need to make a few changes to a project home to meet your needs like probably two ensuites etc. Re: Requesting for a recommended list of builders in Melbour 7Apr 02, 2016 12:35 am Am in a similar sort if situation and am almost at final plans. We've got 2 neighbouring blocks - hubby, kids and me on one, and my parents, brother and his wife and kids on the other. Was a long and hard decision to have 2 neighbouring houses instead of 3 in a row (originally planned) but in the end it made more sense for my brother and his family to live with my parents in the one single house. We're both building with Burbank and so far have been really pleased with the process, they're happy to do any alterations. They have a customs division, and my parents/brothers house is barely recognisable as the original floor plans. They were helpful and patient with the changes necessary to make the duel living work (parents downstairs and brother upstairs) and were pretty competitive in pricing . Down sides that I have seen so far is their choice of finishes etc are limited somewhat, and their administration stage is pretty long and slow, but it's something we're willing to put up with. There are the grand parents, son and his family, adult daughter and possibly some more rellies I haven't met! They did a knock down rebuild and were very happy. Not sure which house - maybe the Kew with an extra toilet and a couple of other minor changes I think.
