Browse Forums General Discussion 1 Mar 11, 2016 10:22 pm Signed my contract with my builder last month, they threw me a variation after and request a retaining wall to be built next to the boundary,I am getting confused here,if you look at the plan and the picture below, the neighbor have an existing retaining wall along the boundary and their site level is approx 600mm lower than my site,I am not really sure why we have to build one as well, and just next to theirs, this sounds ridiculous,I assume the purpose of a retaining wall is to prevent their soil falling onto my land however our neighbor has done it. And if we build one,I think it's just useless and it's such a waste of money!!any thought??

Most surveys include levels on the retaining/fence line and over the fence line. It is poor form to ask the client for extra retaining costs after the house has possibly been position at the wrong /less than optimal height FFL (Assumption)? You will need to check with the builder (if this is the case) as to why this wasn't picked up initially.. They cut into existing ground level and so needed to retain the cut. It looks like you need to fill above existing ground level, so also need to retain that fill. It would have been better to have a single taller retaining wall, but it's hard to organise between neighbours to have that happen. Re: Building 2 retaining walls next to each other?? 4Mar 13, 2016 8:57 pm Id look at it in the sense if thats holding soil that your slab is relying on to stop itself from cracking in future its worth a tiny investment now for years of a trouble free slab. Not unless you have managed to put it as a special condition into the contract somehow. 1 6150 i imagine you also have another contract with an architect? and yeah, whatever other's said about special conditions and appendices 16 15980 Hi all I am looking to run a water line under my concrete footpath which is directly next to my home, was seeing if this is possible without cutting the entire section… 0 20165 |
