Browse Forums General Discussion 1 Feb 27, 2016 2:11 pm Hi all. So I have the following scenario and need a solution. Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ We have a double pantry door which when closed will have a flush wall finish, however when opening both doors they need to fold and stack on the left hand side but on the inside, not outside as it looks now (2nd panel hasn't been installed yet). My cabinet maker is saying that it can only fold and open outside, not inside, that's the way the hinges are. But surely there has to be a system/mechanism where both doors fold and stack inwards? Any help would be appreciated. Thanks. = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = Custom owner build in Hume - VIC - Tiling Stage http://goo.gl/qpPglB Inward opening bifold pantry doors - problem 3Feb 28, 2016 12:37 am Take your pics and plans to a specialist door supplier shop (eg. Stegbar, Doors Plus, Packers) to see what they say. I can see there is no space on the right inside for a bifold. And you clearly need two. Might be able to get something custom made eg quad fold? Re: Inward opening bifold pantry doors - problem 4Feb 28, 2016 1:20 am What is your opening?Pocket doors will work and are probably the common solution. I have also seen hinges that work similar to bus doors but are very expensive. - approx 2 grand!! Our pantry is also hidden like yours (another similarity in our build) it has two 600mm doors opening inwards (not pocket style) There are definitely solutions. Re: Inward opening bifold pantry doors - problem 5Feb 28, 2016 10:10 am Will it block anything when it is open ? However small ? Our pantry door - glass but tinted - opens in and is not a real problem but does block some things behind it - very narrow space I use. I then have to almost lock myself in the pantry ... But - it is not a real issue - rarely happens. Our opening is 1200mm, so must be same as yours. Do you have any photos/drawings of how your one is? = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = Custom owner build in Hume - VIC - Tiling Stage http://goo.gl/qpPglB Re: Inward opening bifold pantry doors - problem 7Feb 28, 2016 10:48 am TomCat I can see there is no space on the right inside for a bifold. Not sure if I am following you correctly but the doors need to stack up on the LHS within the pantry, against the outer wall where the fridge is supposed to go. = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = Custom owner build in Hume - VIC - Tiling Stage http://goo.gl/qpPglB Re: Inward opening bifold pantry doors - problem 8Feb 28, 2016 10:51 am Saint Mike Will it block anything when it is open ? I then have to almost lock myself in the pantry ... But - it is not a real issue - rarely happens. The design process was to keep the benchtop width same as the fridge opening width, the pantry door width the same as the walk space and have the pantry doors stack up so it's a continuous look. = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = Custom owner build in Hume - VIC - Tiling Stage http://goo.gl/qpPglB Re: Inward opening bifold pantry doors - problem 9Feb 28, 2016 10:51 am My kitchen is coming from Europe and they use leicht hinges. I don't have the details in my drawings but I have emailed for them and will let you know. I was initially going to use pocket doors. For a 1200mm opening they require 700 depth. Re-looking at you kitchen I think inward hinges are your only option - would I be right? I think hafele may sell them. Look them up. Re: Inward opening bifold pantry doors - problem 10Feb 28, 2016 11:01 am I was looking at importing my kitchen (and windows) as well from Europe/China but decided not to. The risk involved with getting the measurements spot on was too great as there's a few fine tuning spots plus there wasn't a real saving when I factored in shipping costs and taxes. I hope your one works out for you. Our cabinet maker is using Hettich hinges, he was advised to use this system https://www.hettich.com/au_EN/products/ ... 70780.html But once he put that panel on I realised it's not what we wanted, so looking for solutions now. From my research, we definitely need a pivot system https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=N_j3zZYPQVo (forward to 3:30) with concealed hinges where the 2 panels meet similar to this http://www.ezyjamb.com.au/images/rocyork/RY80MII.jpg so that they're not visible. = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = Custom owner build in Hume - VIC - Tiling Stage http://goo.gl/qpPglB Re: Inward opening bifold pantry doors - problem 11Feb 28, 2016 8:28 pm Yes that's exactly the hafele hinge available. It's made for doors 13-16mm or 19-22mm Re: Inward opening bifold pantry doors - problem 12Feb 28, 2016 8:42 pm It was a really hard decision to go with euro kitchen. - one that I might regret. To be honest I found no savings to be had and yes you need to triple check measurements etc..... We have a very large bench top and we were not able to source a suitable top without a seem but I was through Germany. Fingers crossed. Basically.
