Browse Forums General Discussion 1 Feb 22, 2016 11:15 pm Hi Guys,
I have a question. Should I be paying a electricity and gas bill sent to my investment property addressed as "The Occupier" or just leave that? Basically what happened was Tenant A left off on 10th Jan but bloody they disconnected from their service provider on 6th !Jan. I requested Service Provider Y to have gas and electricity connect at property. I cancelled it within two weeks time. Tenant B came in 22nd Jan and started living in. Service Provider X sent me bill stating that when A left and before B came in we were your default service providers ! and that you(I) will have to pay service to property charge and usage charges. I agree I used a little bit but not much but regardless it was with my service provider and not with default one. Default provider has charged me electricity form 7th jan to 23rd jan and gas from 13th jan to 27th jan.. Am I liable to pay the electricity and gas bills? I feel this is absolutely unfair to me.... No wonder Utilities companies make mega profits.. Dates are just an example but relevant Re: Electricity and gas Bills when property is not used 2Feb 23, 2016 7:20 am Are you in Adelaide by any chance? We had a similar scenario happen to us. My husband moved into an apartment and had the electricity connected on the day he moved in with Provider A. He then received several letters from a Provider B saying they were the default energy providers for the apartment and requesting payment for a period beginning before my husband took possession of the apartment and ending on the day he connected power with Provider A. We tried to find out through the real estate agent when the previous tenant had disconnected but they said they didn't deal with energy bills (???). So we ended up ignoring the letters and never heard from them again. It wasn't much mind you.
