Browse Forums General Discussion 1 Feb 10, 2016 10:10 am Hi! I dont know whether im making any sense BUT does anyone out there have their bath mixer separate to the bath spout to prevent their kids turning the mixer on and possibly burning themselves? I want to put the bath mixer on the wall next to the vanity so my toddler cant turn it on while in the bath, it will still be on the same wall as the spout but up and out of her way. Ive googled to try and find pictures but i cant find any to show my partner what i mean! Does anyone have this and have any pictures ? Or am i crazy to have this idea in my head?! Editing to add, what is your opinion on a walk in shower? We have a very small ensuite (1.6x2.4) and will have a shower in the corner. Would you do a frameless panel on one side in order to have the shower walk in so it looks bigger? The walk in part would face the ensuite door (70cm from entry door to walk in shower) Re: Bath mixer on wall away from bath spout ?? 2Feb 10, 2016 11:57 am I saw a bath like that in a display home on the weekend - but my initial thought was how would someone turn the tap on/off while in the bath if they can't reach it? I think in this case it was just bad design. I would try and do it so that it is out of reach of the toddler but still close enough so that later on someone can turn it on and off while still in the bath. Shower glass is such a in pain the bum to clean but I like it as it keeps some of the heat in during winter. Also depending on the size you don't want water all over the floor if the area is small. Less glass to clean the better I think. Re: Bath mixer on wall away from bath spout ?? 3Feb 10, 2016 1:31 pm The hot water coming out of the bath tap shouldn't be hot enough to burn quickly. In victoria at least i believe it is legislation that it is stored hot enough to elimate bacteria but reduced before outlets to prevent burns. Of course in practice you can never be too careful but you should be fine if its all operating properly. Open showers are colder but they look great, we will have one in the ensuite but a normal one in the kids bathroom that I can always use if I find ours too cold in winter. Thats exactly what i would do, make it in reach of adults but out of reach of kids. i will have a chat to my builder and see what he thinks Cleaning shower glass is probably one of my biggest pet hates! No matter how much i clean, they always have soap scum if we have it enclosed it will be 900x900 if we have walk in we will just have one 900mm wide frameless screen. Im in two minds! Hi bank, thank you for replying! Im in nsw, im not sure of legislation here either but i know ive accidentally hit the hot water when ive been in the shower and i was burned straight away (not badly but it hurt!) My worry is the mixers (not sure what their proper name is) are super easy to turn on, and my little one loves anything shes not allowed near! i will have to do more thinking! Such a great idea about having the enclosed shower in kids bathroom i will definitely have to do that! on one hand i love open showers as theyre modern and less cleaning but i worry it may get water everywhere and theres only 70 cm from the ensuite door to the start of the shower. Re: Bath mixer on wall away from bath spout ?? 6Feb 10, 2016 4:51 pm Just my 2c. I personally wouldn't have them apart even for safety reasons. Besides looking odd IMHO i think it would be impractical for anyone else using it now or later. Kids are only little for such a short time and you can't leave them alone anyway in there so really there shouldn't be a need to have it separate. The temperature coming out the tap should be limited by a tempering valve to 50 degrees. Re: Bath mixer on wall away from bath spout ?? 7Feb 10, 2016 6:33 pm I'm having a frameless shower in the en suite, in the corner, so walls on 3 side. Front is opening into en suite, will have a glass panel with a walk in entry. I'm so excited!!! The main bathroom will have a fully enclosed 1200x900 shower. You can see the elevation/plan on the most recent page of my thread if your interested. I saw it in a display home and loved the idea. LESS glass to clean and no shiny silver metal to scrub, yay! Doesn't stop the kids from turning the water on though... They think it's a game. Re: Bath mixer on wall away from bath spout ?? 13Feb 11, 2016 9:41 am That's how ours is. We didn't have a choice for placement though. Depending on how tall you are, you can flick the tap off with your foot while you're in the tub if you don't want to go over to that end. Im a shorty and the bath is 1.7 long so ill have to move to fix the water I really like how its out of the way, thats basically whats in my head Megera That's how ours is. Re: Bath mixer on wall away from bath spout ?? 18Feb 21, 2016 11:47 pm I personally wouldn't have them away from each other as it would drive me mad whilst having a bath. We have young kids and the legislation nowadays limits water temp to either 50C or 55C. My memory is vague by at 50C it takes 90 seconds to get a burn (which in my Opinion is more than long enough for you to realise your toddler has touched the tap). Double check your legislation and my facts above however. We have 3 kids under 5 in a new build, our eldest was brought up to never touch the taps but our two youngest are delinquents (lol), however at 50-55C it doesn't bother me. I have heard of a friend's friend's kid who got severe burns but older house with higher water temps. You could stipulate water temp in your building contract? Love love your bathroom! Looks amazing! Weve already chosen the spot and are happy with its positioning my toddler is a devil and tried to touch every tap possible Ofcourse i would never leave her as she is too young, but i personally like the look of it up and away slightly. I have posted a pic above I've got a challenge here. Background is the builder has cut too deep for the slab and the slab is now below the very substantial retaining wall. It's failed occupancy… 0 18364 Thank you again Simeon.. I will call my certifier for that. Have a good day 4 5108 Bathroom renovation will likely include a back-to-corner bath and we’re considering a freestanding tap with hand-held shower such as the picture included. My hesitation… 0 24682 |
