Browse Forums General Discussion 1 Feb 06, 2016 7:10 pm Hi guys, new member here looking for some advice on timber flooring as I'm trying some experimental work on my warehouse renovation. If anyone could kindly throw some tips on how to lay premium timber flooring, where the timber is solid, firm and almost concrete like. I understand the type of timber used is very important, what types of wood are the premium types? What should I lay them on? Where can I find the best service/quality? Anyone got recommendations? As you can tell I'm a first time DIY'er trying to get into doing some DIY with the extra time and cash laying around. Thanks for the help in advance, awesome community here! 5keys Re: Needs tips on DIY timber flooring 2Feb 14, 2016 4:30 pm If your laying solid Australian hardwoods not floating floor on a slab you need to get some 9mm ply at least with some concrete nails thay have washers on them and use a polyurethane adhesive such as the bostich brand about $200 per drum and then to lay the floor use the same glue to stick the flooring to the ply and you will need a secret nailer from Kennards this is better the direct to concrete Re: Needs tips on DIY timber flooring 3Feb 14, 2016 8:02 pm jsm009 If your laying solid Australian hardwoods not floating floor on a slab you need to get some 9mm ply at least with some concrete nails thay have washers on them and use a polyurethane adhesive such as the bostich brand about $200 per drum and then to lay the floor use the same glue to stick the flooring to the ply and you will need a secret nailer from Kennards this is better the direct to concrete Good tips mate, agreed. Re: Needs tips on DIY timber flooring 4Feb 14, 2016 8:55 pm Use builders plastic under the ply to stop moisture coming up from the slab. I'm not a fan of the direct stick method. I like Spotted Gum, it is both beautiful with lots of variations and very hard. Engineering timber is certainly a less fuss option, times cheaper to supply and install and better withstands humidity. 1 15893 Just be careful with building stability during construction, that is when the structure may be weakened, refer to your engineering drawings for stability methodology. 1 7217 Thank you so much.
