Browse Forums General Discussion 1 Jan 28, 2016 1:07 pm We need to get a bungalow in our backyard demolished and removed. I've started to get some quotes - I can't believe how hard it is to get quotes. Seriously.... One company has been great - answering all my questions and provided a prompt quote. Others I've left messages and sent emails with photos, etc and haven't heard boo. I would ideally like 2 or 3 quotes to compare but if I can't get others to come back to me I might have to just bite the bullet and go for the company that has been very helpful. I called one company. The man who answered only answered with a "hello", so I asked if this was XYZ company, he told me he won't tell me until I tell him my name and what I was calling about. lol My husband thinks this guys got someone chasing him about something. He said he would come around and quote but I feel uneasy about the start of that telephone conversation so told him I'd get back to him. Anyone used a reliable Asbestos removalist in Melbourne they would recommend? I had massive dramas and I chose this company because they seemed transparent and thorough! Make sure any contract for service that you sign lists all of the locations of asbestos to be removed. Ensure you ask the person providing a quote (they should be doing a walk through not quoting from Google Earth) all of the possibly locations they expect find asbestos- in the roof, behind walls, eaves etc and ensure an allowance for each area is included. Also make sure every location of asbestos is included in the quote. Don't sign anything that indicates you need to pay in full before receiving documents such as the Asbestos Clearance Certificate or tip receipts. The company I used declared on the 'completion day' that my money was due and invoiced me, and told me that they had as asbestos clearance certificate, and when I sourced my own several days later after the company would not produce it, my site failed as it was littered with asbestos chips. The emo company then explained they did not yet have clearance and that this would only occur after I paid in full. My advice would be to only use a company to which you have been referred by someone who has good feedback. Obviously this isn't going to be a 100% safeguard but better than Googling! I contacted quite a few companies (voicemail, emails and online forms) and only 2 got back to me. One would only give me an estimate over the phone, sounded like a cowboy actually. The other company came to the house and gave me a thorough written quote and spoke a lot about the safety aspects they use. Needless to say I went with the second company. They provided the clearance certificate at the same time they sent the invoice. Because it wasn't a massive job I didn't bother trying to chase any more quotes, although if I was going to be removing all internal walls or something I would have rung around a lot more. EDIT: Forgot the mention the company I ended up using had a LOT of good feedback on the internet. I know online feedback can't always be trusted but everything looked legit. 5 10494 What you are looking at is fibrous plaster, true gypsum, it is cast on horizontal beds with fibers included to give strength.
