I'm in Melbourne, so as you can expect, we get some crazy weather. The frame construction began on Monday last week and the builders had laid out all the top and bottom plates of the frame, which was great as I could finally get a feel of room sizes. I came back on Tuesday to find half of the frame was now up, or at least a 3rd of it. Wednesday was pretty hot, it got to 40C+ near the city, but where my house is being built it got to about 36C. I knew the builders would've either left the site by the time it hit 35C, or called the entire day as a weather day. They called the entire day off, or I assume they did, because nothing was done. Meanwhile, the untreated wood is sitting on the block, in the sunlight and extreme heat (surprisingly it's not being stolen). Next day, it rained 13.6mm. Obviously, they didn't work this day either. The next day it didn't rain, but they didn't work this day either. Come weekend, sunny and dry. Now it's Monday again, today reached 37C in Melbourne, but only 31C at the closest weather station to my build (it didn't get to 35C on site). I went out to the block today, and unsurprisingly, nothing has been done. Tomorrow is going to be 39C, so it might get to 35C, possibly, at the build site, although unlikely due to the location and elevation. I've been keeping records of all the days they don't go out due to weather (I assume it's weather, as they tell me they should've been out there, but they aren't), and I'm keeping records of the temperature and rainfall on these days too, because this is starting to look more and more like It will go over the contract sunset date. 2 questions: 1. Am I supposed to be notified when they take a weather day? They've certainly gone over the 7 they factored in. 2. Is it bad that the pieces of the frame (studs and noggins cut to size) are just sitting in the rain and then blazing sun, all day, every day? Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ Thanks! Re: Frame exposed to extreme weather - will it warp? 2Jan 18, 2016 7:34 pm They should notify you at the end of the month about weather day that they intend claiming for but hardly ever does a builder do it. the builder only has a claim if the weather days go over what could reasonably expected.
