Browse Forums General Discussion 1 Dec 30, 2015 8:10 pm I have built a brick column alongside my set of stairs. Now on the other side to make it symmetrical I am building a second brick column to hold the front beam of the roof. I have built the second column on the boundary line, however the actual roof of the carport will start 1000mm in from the boundary. Is the brick column on the boundary fine or does that have to be 900mm set back from side boundary? Any input/advice is appreciated Thanks Re: Building Carport! 2Dec 31, 2015 9:49 am With our local council a wall or similar has to be 900mm in from the boundary. You can build zero clearance eg right up to the boundary but anything within that 900mm has to be faced with non-flammable material. Bricks obviously are OK but fascias etc at the end of rafters would have to be metal to comply. It is all about fire regs and stopping the spread of a fire from one house to the other. Stewie Re: Building Carport! 3Dec 31, 2015 9:55 am This comes under the classification of building on the boundary. Only your local council can give you a definite answer but there is some general information at the following link http://anewhouse.com.au/2013/02/can-you ... -boundary/ The Harder You Try - the Luckier You Get ! Re: Building Carport! 4Dec 31, 2015 10:29 am There will only be a brick column on the boundary line. the face of the carport will have a hidden roof, however the roof will start atleast 1200mm in from the boundary to line up with existing gutters from house. Maybe if i drew a picture and showed you guys would be easier?
