Frogs, Toads and Assorted Night Creatures?

I guess this is "General Discussion".

When night approaches at our house the nightly Frog Orchestra starts up. When I say starts up - they are deafening some nights.

We are on a golf course - 9th Green - which has a long lagoon water trap along it - and beside us. No issues with mossies - but the singing is unbelievable.

Then - it stops - no reason - silence for a few moments - then one starts - then BANG !!!!

They all stop around 5am.

My question - is there a way to silence them - I don't mind if they start up after I'm asleep ...

In fact it can be quite soothing. But - we sleep with doors open - and have to have the TV a lot louder when we watch it.

Maybe a whistle ?

I'm not joking about the volume. Imagine a frog in a drain - then multiply it by one thousand !

I actually quite like it but Mrs SM goes spare.

we have a frog that sits in one of the uncapped poles of the gate... it is LOUD... at xmas drinks, the neighbours 3 houses down and across the street was talking about it

As I said - our lot all sing together. You have to turn the TV up.

I think most suggestions for getting a bit of quiet might land you in hot water with the EPA

Give it time, where there is excessive food, a predictor or two will show up.

My folks have a dam at their place that had heaps of frogs but now, not so many (quieter at night!)

Two lots of predictors took up residence near the dam. A family of Tawny Frogmouths moved in (they nest their every year now, 2 new chicks this Christmas) and they got the numbers down a bit. The frogs go quiet when they are out hunting.

The other were a few red-bellied black snakes that love frogs. They live in the rocks and scrub around the dam and are pretty placid. When we see them out sunning themselves they slither off well before we get too close.

Saw a BIG monitor on the path as I walked this morning ... looked very quiet - so maybe had been eating. About a metre or two.

I decided to give him the right of way.
